I would like to see the team play a 60min grind, and then finish the game with a 20min razzle dazzle.
Lets be real you cant win either way playing 80min of grind or razzle. Its no surprise that the 2 most successful team over the past 5 years melb n saints have a similiar formula 60-20.
In the past we have come out trying to blow a team out of the park from kick off and just dug ourselve into a hole during the game.. its just like gambling, if u try to win big quick - u will be chasing for the rest of the time!

I agree we should play likr that. only if we have a 10 point buffer at that point then try our luck and pile the points on. if its tight at 60 keep grinding. a wins a win.
lets hope so.
i think its also important to improve our first half of the season record.. maybe a 9-4 win/loss ratio will be a good target.
I think the guys need a good win in round one....so many years the Eels have gone down in the season opener and it seems to set a bad vibe in the place, players and fans alike. Becuase every off season there are guys like us predicting big things and getting more and more excited as the season draws nearer.
Even now, with a heap of the people on this forum hinting that we will not compete in 2011, there are alot that are excited about the new mindset that SK is putting into place.
And to hear all this talk of a far more proffesional outfit with a strong emphasis on playing the full 80 and playing it hard, a loss in round one, especially a big one could deflate the players who are currently going through thier toughest ever offseason.
The word "Grind" is often used describing a side that doesn't win many games but tries very hard !!
Stay in the game for 60mins but the other 20mins always looses them the match.
We don't have a full squad, and don't have enough back up in key positions. It's a long season a few injuries and we are shot ducks. Hope i'm wrong
But I do agree with your points, I don't want to see the razzle dazzle put to bed. The Dragons mightn't, but the Storm still have razzle, mainly between Slater and Cronk and it has worked for them.
i agree with Jake.
A fair amount of trust in judgement needs to be given to the players. They need to strike when they feel the time is right you cannot put numbers down to playing conservative over attacking.
Its needs to come down to how the game has gone accordingly to the gameplan and also Hayne's natural instincts.
For me thats wat i fear the most. I dont wanna see a coach whether it be Kearney or anyone else stifle Haynes natural ability.
that is true and im sure the team will strike with any opportunity available regardless of the time. But in general the game plan must include some structure from start to end. so lets base it on hard grind footy, and the razzle will be a reward towards the end of the game.
im sure we are all on the same view that we would be more successful if we get the mix right.
My 60-20 theory is based on the natural nature of the game. In MOST rugby league games the game opens up in the final 15-20min.
The fact is that up to the 60min mark the team/s could either be:
- In the game (tight contest)
- Ahead
- Ahead comftorble
- Just behind (chasing)
- Way behind (miracle comeback)
I am hoping we could be in between the AHEAD and IN THE GAME zone at the least. To many time we have been just behind (chasing) or hoping for that miracle comeback.
What if we are just ahead. and what we need is high percentage plays and fewer turnovers?
Each game needs to be given a case by case basis. and the coaching needs to come into it in order to help coach the players into learning when to pick the right plays.
20 minutes of razzle dazzle is fine but that 20 minutes needs to be throughout the game.
General gameplans are given for each period of the game but they are influenced by who is going to come into the game at the time and depending on the scoreline and the statistics.
I dnt think and hey i could be wrong but i dnt think coaches issue instructions regarding high percentage plays for such amount of time and then low percentage moves for this amount of time.
If the coach likes them to play more conservative and with more st george esque style of play then they will play that for the entire game. Perhaps he may allow them a small amount of freedom in order to create the razzle dazzle but it shold not exacly be part of a gameplan.
