"Agree LB, both.
And to Coryns point, to win in Melbourne, you need to be perfect - and you need to be given a fair chance.

"Great points as usual NOS. When you lose by 48 points that is on you. But also, the issues from the refs made us fatigue and weakened us. The Iongi HIA weakened us as it forced Ryles to put Joash on when in hindsight he didn't really need to, but we…"

Meh. Similar to a lot of other blogs recently about our team.
You make a good point about having players from elsewhere. I suppose we got Lee Mossop and Ben Crooks from England (not quite to the standard of James Graham tho...). Manu is from NZ. Semi from Fiji. Those last two came straight to us.
Then there's Gower, a bench player from manly. Wicks, coming out of a 5 year ban & on minimum pay. What I'm saying is that a lot of our better players are on either low or realistic pay.
I think the big problem is we overpay a lot of players who don't deliver to the expected level. Overpaid players include Choc, Hoppa, Sandow, Mannah and Lussick. Our highest paid players need to be real stars. For example, Cameron Smith, Thurston or even other good players like Aaron Woods or Josh Dugan to list a few examples. I wonder how much Marshal is on at the Dragons?
Our salary cap was a complete and utter mess and it takes time to fix it. We actually do have a recruitment committee but ultimately BA gets pretty much the team he wants. Our recruitment for next year has been the best of any year since we brought in the big Canterbury four. I don't agree with your point of view at all.
I've heard reference to 'big Canterbury four' in the past. Was this in the mid 90's? This was before I really followed the ins and outs of players. I guess that shows how long it's been... out of living memory for some!
Our salary cap was a complete and utter mess and it takes time to fix it
and that justifies paying way way overs for Scott and Watmough ? Depth, or lack there of,is the result of over indulgent over spends on aging veterans that have zero, zip, nadda ability to WIN games
In addition, another reason for the salary cap mess is that Parra (bless them for being loyal) don't know how to off load aging veterans (either).....before they become a salary cap impediment.
It is clear that Parra's recruitment efforts nearly always and still remains focused on the short term gain at the expense of building for long term success.
Foran is a coup, no doubt about that - that sort of money is well spent on a playmaker / match winner
Parra are still a long way away before they sort out "developmental player" structures.......we always go to the well and over spend on imports and /or continue paying top dollar for aging veterans - simply put - Parra does not know WHEN in a players career to EITHER buy or sell players..... leaving us thin in player depth due to an over burdened cap.... and at risk to inevitable injuries as the long season enters the colder weather......and with very little chance to use those opportunities to blood emerging talent.....as they invariably have been moved on to other clubs
Parra started over paying for imports in the Super League War....and it continues to this day.
Thankfully, there are no "home grown" aging veterans on our current roster - this alone should help Parra navigate some sort of long term plan.......but they just can't help themselves when it comes to throwing away stupid amounts of money on "old guys" that cannot win games.
The big 4 were all Test players in their prime at the time when they signed and we will never see that again due to the salary cap. The signing of Scott, Foran and maybe Carney is the closest we will get to the big 4.
I think we could do worse than Scott. He was playing Origin/ Test footy up to until last year and has even won a GF previously. Sure, he's getting old and maybe 3 years is too long... but I'm still looking forward to having him. He might help balance out the youth and inexperience in other players.
