  • So what happens if some are let go or choose to leave and the results are the same as 2024? Will that all be on Ryles too?

I think the almost cult-like loyalty BA instilled in some of the playing group may have a longer lasting effect on the club than many of us realise

    • Ryles will most likely give them a shot to see if they are going to respond. If healthy this roster on paper is actually solid. A good long pre season and see how it pans out. Most of these guys aren't signed passed 2025 so it's basically their last shot

      • I am not too sure. The recruitment committee were already on the process of trying to move on Sivo for example. I think their intent is to get younger and move others on. We have a warchest for 2026 if we leave it as is, but if you have a bad 2025, you will be overpaying and can be back to square one.

  • I hope at least 6 or more of those players you have put in our team are gone by 2025.

It's not because I don't like them but our team is WAY TO OLD and I don't say that to be mean. It's just a fact. Almost our entire forward pack is 30+ and so are a number of our backs. Look how slow the Eels look compared to other teams. Yes, a big factor is confidence is down but I thinks it's more their age is catching up to them. You can carry two or three slower older players, particularly if you have young fast players around them but if you don't, what the Eels are dishing up is evidence of that. The last two or so games is more due to confidence and blooding young players but the rest of the season, age related.

Our team has too many on the otherside of 30 and the game is only getting faster. I don't know anyone (Not saying there is no such thing) who gets faster at age 30+.

    • You aren't wrong at all, just need to see what ryles plan is with the roster

    • Paulo, Matterson and Lane are my picks to go, shop them now, even if we get half their value to sign some younger players. Shop Brown around for Blaize at 6. Just need a new FB. Blaize isnt it. Maybe Lomax. Gutho stays in the team next year, somewhere in the backs. Hope we keep RCG too, would be a mistake to get rid of him. RCG should have been club captian before Paulo, Jnr has zero heart or respect for this club/jersey.

      • Oh dear

  • If that's our squad for next year, it's going yo be another long season with a bottom 2 finish especially with a very very very green coach.

"If it is Matto, not a bad tactic to get him off our books quicker.Let him stew at home knowing he'll need game time to secure a decent 2026 contract. Might just be enough to tip him over."

Wouldn't be surprised if the article says BA is still the coach."
