I don't know that the premiership window opened last year. Parra played very well, but we had to build on that with some young enthusiastic players as well as generate (or purchase) some rep quality players. The team and club would have learnt a lot from this year - they just need to take those learnings into the next few seasons. We certainly should have won at least one of those GFs you mentioned, especially 2005 - that was ours for the taking and we blew it.
By the way, we are not certs for the spoon this year. If I were NQ, GC or Manly, I'd be worried. Parra is starting to play well and if we continue we may just miss the spoon.
Also most would agree the last few years though we played better against top sides and lost games we were supposed to win. So the draw last year was more dangerous for us.
There is no such thing as an easy draw. You will probably meet them in the finals anyway, if your team makes it that far.
