I wanted to blog an idea.
Maybe something to take on board as we head into 2015.
I think we can all feel something special has been brewing within the great club of ours for a little while now, it's a change that we, as fans have started to see, not only from the results on the field (which are nice for all of us, not just the fans, but the staff, the admin, the players, the coaching team), but also the way that the team and staff are around one another , happy.
Here's my pipe dream, that I hope people can hop on board with.
BEING POSITIVE.
No, I am not asking us to be turned into a bunch of "Stepford Fans" (for those who may not get the reference, here is a link to the Urban Dictionary - http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Stepford+Wife ), there will no doubt be some decisions that the coach or staff make that won't make EVERYONE happy, as there will be some players that , you just don't like .... it happens!
BUT, here's the thought - let's TRY our best to not blog every gripe, every time we don't like a selection, a recruitment or a player loss.
I know that it's sometimes good to have a vent and a rant, but general blogs are maybe not the best place .
I love blogs like our fan "1,2,3 best players on the day" blogs, "training blogs", "wenty match day reports", "favourite Eels memories" ... those are awesome.
But making up stories, criticising players, trolling fellow 1Eyed Eels. That's just not good form. There's been some good people that have left this site because of those kind of blogs.
I know that sometimes we feel the need to "purge" , and IF it has to be here, maybe we can open up a group on this site (we have , such as "The Cave", "Current Affairs") .... or maybe keep it to over a few beers somewhere!
As i said, I don't want us to become a bunch of "Stepford Fans", blindly following with no voice, opinion or flavour of our own, but as we move to a real new era within our club, as a group of fans, PROUD fans who love our club, I'd love us to be a group of positive fans who rally behind our club, our players, our entire team and want to encourage and build up those who pull on the blue and gold.
When you think about it, we have the easy job as fans. Seriously!
The players have the weight of expectation to perform and win every time they take the field. Yes they are paid well (some better than others!) to do that, but they are people, who will have some off days, but they really DO want to win every time they take the field (did everyone catch Chrissy Sandow's interview on the main Eels web page? I loved when he said he is a sore loser and wants to win every time he takes the field!). They WANT to do and be the best for themselves and importantly US ... the fans. They put in hours upon hours of training to be the best , for us.
Same with the coaching staff. These guys put in the hours and then some on our team, working out the ways in which to get the best of out of the players, making sure the players are performing at their best and making sure they are constantly improving as players .... and people. Place on top of that game plans, working out how to best utilise the players they have to achieve the best results, but analysing the opposition then the hours of reviewing and analysing the tapes of games. The coaches and staff are not just tacticians and selectors, their roles are so much more. I don't know about you, but theirs is a job I would not want (when you really think about it ... all the praise when the team goes well, but the wrath and ire of so many when you don't win games!).
Anyhoo, I'll wrap up this essay, and hope that I may have planted the odd seed or two.
Here's to an AWESOME season 2015, let's celebrate the good, support and uphold if times get a little rough and know that we support the GREATEST team in the NRL, if not the world.
See you all at the games this year!

Examine how people here blog about the fan sites of other clubs are going into meltdown over certain issues. We laugh about it. When we ridiculously post untruths or personal attacks we are lowering the reputation of this site and the Parra fans.
This great club is renowned for the passion of its fans. Larissa has stated that we help to contribute to the position of the club. Great strides are about to be made. Let's be a part of that.
Great advise DK, I think the same can be said for this web site. We are all fans of 1eyedeel, not everybody is going to like every blog. So if we could all be a little more accepting that this site caters to a huge range of people, who all have different ways of expressing there love for our club. Personally this diverse range of opinions is what makes this site great and interesting.
Cheers matey!
and I think the opinion is worth more than a "two cents worth" !
Critiquing a team is a part of being a fan, I agree, it's a part of being passionate, but I'd like to hope we can create a group page (such as "The Cave", "Current Affairs") where if people want to vent they can and know that blogging on that page IS a vent page, one that people have to be invited into, rather than it being something that is open for the general public to have access to.
Sixties picked up on something I was going to add, but my blog was enough of an essay as it was.
I can recall fellow 1Eyed Eels adding links from pages such as "The Kennel" (Canterbury Bulldogs fan site) and "Silvertails" (the Manly fan site). I think I can pretty much speak for most of us when we have had a great laugh at the way they have REALLY had a solid attack at their own players, let alone some of the comments made about our fine team and US as supporters.
My big hope is that we don't descend into being like SOME of the supporters on those sites (because I am sure that there are many passionate, intelligent and articulate fans on other fan sites, hence my saying SOME of the supporters).
And yeah, I know that we have all had a gripe or a whinge about a player or selection in the past, I know I can't say that I am without sin and can cast the first stone (my mind is wandering to "The Life of Brian" with the stoning scene now!!!).
I'm hoping that with the new year, with everything our great club has built upon over the last season and the AMAZING feeling I am sure we are ALL feeling about this year, that we can start the year with a fresh page.
that's all!!!
retrospective criticisms ... all for that, let me tell you about that Jack Gibson bloke who left us in the lurch after winning three premierships !!!
KIDDING!!!
Sorry, trying to keep it light and silly!
One of the funniest stories I can recall about a criticism about an ex-coach comes from a friend of mine who won a Parramatta Jersey on a talk back radio station. They asked him which players name he would like on the back. His reply was priceless . He said "Well the last player's name I got on a jersey was Jamie Lyon and he left the club within weeks of me getting the thing .... Can I get the coaches name on the back??!!??"
There was much laughter from the radio hosts !!!
Love the positivity but I will criticise and whine when I deem it necessary.
It's what blogs/posts are about. All manner of opinions, both positive and negative.
After all how many comps have we won since 86 again?
I think we have a reason to vent but I respect your thoughts.
