2010: The year of the Eel

As we enter 2010, I'm sure all Eels fans go into this season with both high hopes and expectations. We've been priced by the bookmakers as favourites, and realistically, it's a fair assessment. The side that went on its end-of-season winning streak has only been strengthened and we go into the season with some strong combinations and good depth in key positions. All of which said, luck will play her part as she always does in the NRL. No side can go through an injury-ravaged year an emerge as premiers, such is the closeness and competitiveness of the competition. But with even luck, we should be there come September and in with as good a chance as any side. And of course, 1Eyed Eel will be here as your online companion throughout the ups and downs. Like the Eels themselves, our site went on an end-of-year streak after a re-launch and we added more than 700 members since the mid-year launch. I do expect the site to keep growing this year and we're going to chase our own little goal of 2010 members before the year is out. I've been very surprised at the quality of some of the off-season discussions and augurs well for a stimulating season. I'll be doing my best within the time constraints I have to write as much news and analysis for the site, but it's great to know that there are so many quality contributors making 1Eyed Eel such a vibrant community. Another of our ambitions is to stimulate as much off-site interaction as possible as well. I probably got to meet at least a dozen of you last year and it really does take the level of interaction and enjoyment to another level, so I encourage you to try and participate in any of the get-togethers that are organised through the site. So to all 1Eyed Eel members, I hope you have a had a fabulous holiday and new year. Now, let's bring on 2010 - the year of the Eel!
