2 out of 5

In past years game reviews were just that, some may have had some pertinent points regarding when the game changed etc, this year I have noticed the increase of the 5 things we learnt from each game.  Here are two out of the five that came from RLW.  Says a lot really, & while we want wins more than anything, at least opponents & even the match reporters.

3. Parramatta refuse to give up.
We all know it has been the season from hell for the Eels, who are a genuine top-eight team but won’t be playing finals football because of the 12-point penalty they received after the club cheated the salary cap. But despite having been without attacking spearheads Kieran Foran and Corey Norman for some time now, they refuse to rack the cue. Don’t be surprised if they manage to clock up at least one more win in the two rounds left.

5. Bevan French will be a star at fullback.
Parramatta are still naming French on the wing and Michael Gordon at fullback, but French started at fullback against Canberra and made a strong impression. It is now clear he has the inside running over Clint Gutherson for the starting fullback spot next season and once he puts on a bit of weight during the pre-season he will be even better placed to take that responsibility. French is a dynamo. He’s going to give defenders nightmares for many years to come.

  • I just hope we beat the drag queen in our last home game

    • Paul If we can't them, it will be quite a let down to say the least.  The last game against the Worriers will not be easy on their home ground but would love to see us win both to put us above the rabbits.

    • I agree, Paul. I've a carton of beer riding on that game with my Dragon mate or I'm screwed lol cos I know what beer he'll be asking for and its bloody expensive...Col, don't we have a good record at Warriors home ground? We've beaten them in the last couple of years if my alcohol soaked memory recalls
  • I think we will win both our last 2 games.

I'm excited to see French grow as a fb.
Put few more kg on and get that sweeping play right
  • I would like to see French and Gutherson share fullback duties for the last two matches and put Gordon on the wing.

  • Is it just me or does anyone prefer the idea of Semi as fullback?
    • Mate its been suggested by others & opinion divided.  Thing is we have good worthy fullbacks for next year to compete against each other in French & Gutherson to play Semi in that spot may or may not work but if he has a good center partner who can set him up as we saw more of last season, I would not like to see that area weakened.

My concern for next year is more to do with back up wing & centre positions rather than the #1 spot, reason why I wouldn't mind the club make a play for David Mead.

  • I believe BA stated that he wanted to double Semi's pay and you don't pay wingers $500k but you do centres. Imo Semi will be playing right centre next year with probably Tahu playing left winger and either Guth or French playing right winger, whoever doesn't get fb spot. Or Guth playing halves if new half purchased (name escapes me at moment) doesn't measure up.

    • Glenn, regarding paying wingers $500k, I think it depends on who the winger is and what value he brings to the team. If Semi is almost guaranteed to score a few tries on the back of his own brilliance every game and saves a few, then in my mind he is worth $500k. Today's wingers are much more valuable than 20 years ago.

    • Who is Tahu? Thought he retired.

If you mean Tuha, maybe he will come into calculations after some of the displays he has provided at Wenty in the last couple of months.

I think that with Taka & Jennings as the primary 2 centres, Semi given more a roving role which he has done this year, but it has not brought the same results as last season though, may work but, the best option is to get our #3 into a mindset that provides his outside man with the ball more often.

Our problem may still be in the back up centres should one get injured.
