You, my poor people, have been through the wringer. You have copped it all. Back-to-back wooden spoons. Demoralising thrashings. Incessant bad media. I'm sure you've copped it deluxe almost week-in, week-out from your buddies and non-Eel supporting family members.
Yet, every week you get back up. You brush off the disappointment and the barbs, and once more put on that blue and gold jersey/hoodie/jacket/shirt and trek out to Parramatta Stadium or switch on the game.
You poor, miserable creatures. Why would anyone possibly put themselves through that? You should really should consider getting a new pastime.
Screw that, most of you will say. Actually, most of you will probably say it with a little more colour. Blue and gold, till I f&^#ing die.
I look at our membership increasing strongly in the middle of the most miserable footballing period this club has experienced for decades. I stare in amazement at the traffic on this website, continually rising. You people just keep coming back for more. You're clearly all fools.
One of the things I love about running this website, is being immersed in that incredible, amazing well of passion that you all produce. Win or lose. Good or bad.
Some of you, love the club so much that regardless of how bleak things are, you still cannot see anything but roses. Then there are others who take losing, like it's the end of the world. They kick the dog. Throw things at the tele. Occasionally they do it, in reverse. And then some of them will get on a site like this and rant until it doesn't hurt anymore. You don't hurt, unless you care. Deeply and passionately.
Over the ten years I've been running this site, I've come to realise that Parramatta fans don't tend to sit in the middle. They don't apathetically tune into a match, or casually scan the football results hoping their team got a win up. They go one way or the other. One eyed unicorns or crazy, ranting nutbags. That's who we are. I'm not going to pretend you're not a challenging mob to deal with it, but at least there's never a dull moment.
I'll admit there are times I get down-hearted. Particularly of late, when I've seen people put their own self-interest ahead of the interests of this club. However, you only have to spend a little time with your fellow Eels fans to realise that those people are few and far between.
Ultimately, this club will always rebound. Because of its fans, it's supporters and it's members. At the end of the day, you are the club. I love your passion, your resilience and even your lunatic tendencies.
So in this week - members week - I salute you all. I know all we want in return for all of our support is a win on Monday. But if it doesn't come, well, damn, we'll be back to do it all again.
