1eyed eel - Started By Phil - Made By You

In an era where many of us are concerned about the problems created by social media, my reflective mood today puts me in awe of the 1eyed eel community. Phil has already written a blog about the positive influence that this community was able to have in the elections. He can feel rightly proud. This website was his baby, he brought it into this world. It has been guided by the moderators - a thankless task that surely cops far more criticism than kudos. Importantly, it has now been nurtured by all of you, the contributing members. So what makes this site so different to their social media sites? No doubt a common passion for our club. We express it in so many different ways. Often times members bump heads and it sometimes boils over in the wrong way. But when all is said and done we are united in our support of what is arguably one of the more challenging teams to support in the NRL. Premiership success has been a rare commodity yet every year we front up and the membership base of this site continues to grow. The people here are real. Now we have the odd member who creates a persona, causes problems, disappears then comes back under another name. However, for the most part, people here have had the opportunity to meet others in person. I've been fortunate enough to meet quite a few of you over the years and we don't have to go through too many degrees of separation to make real world links between each member here. I'm also happy to consider a number of you my mates - as someone who is not a great fan of social media (I don't use Facebook) this is something that I've found quite surprising.Importantly, this community of ours is recognised and respected by the club. Larissa keeps us up to date with member information and there have been community members volunteering their time to help steer the club through the election period. A genuine symbiotic relationship is being created.Furthermore, this site has become my go to place for Eels news. With so many members attending to media sources, anything Eels related ends up being posted here. Why spend hours surfing the net when I can just visit this one place. Finally, on a personal note, this community has provided me with the opportunity to strengthen some personal ties with the club. I'm sure many of us find that personal connection in our own way through 1eyed eel. I've genuinely enjoyed and appreciated these closer ties. Many years ago I used to contribute to the old Eels message board. When it disappeared, I wasn't sure what else I wanted to contribute to. I'm glad that I discovered 1eyed eel when I did. So thanks Phil for giving us this community, and thanks to all of you for making it the site that it is.

  • Cheers Nonna. It's a bit peace, love etc from a Sixties boy, but I think it is accurate to say that this is a great community to contribute to.
  • Yep, politics is great (ie. the home team won) and IEE is great....

My concerns relate to how Parra perform on the field!

  • Lots of back-slapping going on, while the team spirals down into the toilet.....AGAIN!

    • I wrote my piece about the team yesterday. I'm not happy about that believe me.
  • Great blog mate.
  • No one likes the kid who sucks up to the teacher 60's. lol

    • Maybe too much time on my hands at the moment.
  • Mate you're a valuable member of 1eyedeel, your opinion is highly valued and your training blogs kept everybody sane in the offseason.

Keep up the good work you legend.
    • I've received lots of positive feedback for my blogs. This is my way of saying thanks to everyone for giving me a community to contribute to. Thanks for your feedback.
  • Great blog 60's i echo your thoughts and mentioned a few things similar last night.

Its a great community here, the best RL site in the community we have a great blend and some great people with great loyalties and characters.

I think last night was a crowning moment for Phil, this site never been easy for him to run, im sure at times in the journey he thought 'why am i doing this?'

Phil lost his membership over this site, hes been through a few hard times because of this place but last night the seeds of his labour were seen.

You see this site isnt just a footy site, its a very powerful voting block, the biggest voting block, and through this site the face of the club has been forever changed, to be able to have such a huge impact on the club must be incredibly satisfying, Phis done what no other eels supporter has done, thats be able to totally change the game from outside the board room, its breaking new ground, and if they were too silly to fear Phil and 1EE before yesterday even though this place sank Spagnolo and his stooges, they will be very scared after yesterdays result, congrats Phil congrats 1EE.

"Great points as usual NOS. When you lose by 48 points that is on you. But also, the issues from the refs made us fatigue and weakened us. The Iongi HIA weakened us as it forced Ryles to put Joash on when in hindsight he didn't really need to, but we…"
