As the folk who have been around for a while would know, the site has grown dramatically since it was re-launched midway through last year and indeed it just keeps growing. For example, the traffic we do each week is now at the same level as it was for the Grand Final last year when interest in the Eels was at a fever pitch.
Along the way, we've had our challenges. We occasionally get an influx of new members who end up skewing what this site is all - supporting our mighty Blue and Gold. As a community, we've had to experiment and learn the best way to handle these challenges but I think recent changes and the excellent work of our moderators has enabled us to get the site back to where the majority of members want it to be.
So thank you to Daneel, Tinkerbell, Slaytanic and our most recently recruited moderator Johno who have been doing a great job of keeping the crap out of the way or getting rid of it altogether. That's not always easy when someone is determined to cause trouble. Daneel, for example, was deleting a whole bunch of inappropriate posts late into the night after the game on Monday. You might have noticed I've been pretty busy of late, with my work and personal commitments, and the site would have just fallen a part in recent weeks were in not for these folk. Please be aware that if stuff you post is clearly inappropriate, I'm simply deleting people now and two people were banned on Monday night.
Indeed, thank you to everyone for all of your contributions. The opportunity to hear what other supporters are thinking and talk and debate the various merits, or lack there of, related to our side is an absolute privilege and we've got a wonderful and colourful community. Special appreciation for our long-time members who have stuck with the site through thick and thin. These guys and girls have been the backbone of the site for a long time. You guys know who you are, and you should know you're loyalty is recognised and appreciated.
For me, the communiy has developed another dimension with Tony's efforts in forming The Swarm and it's been great to meet a whole bunch of members this year. So if you do go to the game, come by and say hello, we're always front and centre in the Northern Terrace (and remember they will let you in prior to the game, if you have tickets elsewhere, and then you can get back out again just prior to that match). Or even better come and join us for the entire game. It really is a blast and great when you walk out of the ground even when we've lost with a grin on your face because you've had such a great time.
And to everyone who has bought 1Eyed gear, thank you as well, as the commission we make from that will go into doing some cool stuff I'm planning to do for the site when time and resources allow. And to Dan for his awesome design.
I'm clearly biased but I already think 1Eyed Eel is the best supporter site for any NRL club on the net, but there's still so much more I'd like to do.
Anyway, excuse this obviously self-indulgent post, but this has been a pretty big milestone we've been working towards for a while and I thought it was a good chance to say a whole bunch of thank you's to everyone. I was particularly pleased with the fact that there was a lot of positivity around the place, despite the loss on Monday night. Stay true and keep the belief. I still think 2010 is going to be a season to remember.
