1Eyed Eel fans favour Hayne return

A 1Eyed Eel poll of Parramatta supporters indicates that an overwhelming majority would welcome back Jarryd Hayne with open arms.

With just short of 500 responses, 70 per cent of 1Eyed Eel visitors voted in favour of Jarryd Hayne returning to the club.

Given the manner in which Hayne walked out on the club, and the anger that followed his subsequent move to the Gold Coast Titans, the positive poll result may surprise many.

However, the overwhelmingly favourable sentiment suggests that Hayne remains close to the heart of most Eels fans, and the prospect of seeing him back in Blue and Gold is enough to make Parramatta supporters forgive and forget.

Hayne's impressive form for Fiji, is certainly not hurting his cause. He became the Rugby League World Cup's highest try scorer over the weekend during the nation's 72 to six shellacking of Wales.

Certainly, not all, are excited about the possibility of returning.

ESPN quoted Eels great Mick Cronin as casting doubt on Hayne's commitment, saying: "I can't see the benefit for Parramatta."

"What is commitment these days from him?" Cronin was quoted as saying. "He was committed to the Titans and the coach got sacked. How long would he stay this time. I just can't see any long-term future".

Meanwhile, Matthew Johns said he couldn't find a place for Hayne..

"You have a look at the spine, there’s Corey Norman and Mitchell Moses, lock them in. Bevan French, who can play fullback but could probably play wing," John said on the Grill Team.

“But you’ve got Clint Gutherson, who was one of the most outstanding players in the competition until he did his knee.“So where does he (Hayne) play?”

  • You should have had unsure phil.
My no was more not a yes lol
I think you wouldn't get 70 percent with an unsure
  • Put the poll back up cause i certainly dont want him

  • I never did no poll lol
  • Id take him in a heart beat.
  • Where was this survey ? Did it stipulate things like how much we'd be paying him etc ? Becasue his return certainly hinges on the conditions .

Would all these yes voters have him back if he was taking up 8 or 900k ?
    • It was at the top of the home page.

Agree regarding pay and contract length. Definitely open to paying him no more than $600K on a one year deal. Make him prove his commitment first.

I wouldn't have him back if he was going marquee money. Simply not worth it at this stage.

    • I think even the most ardent Hayne fan would not accept him back at the club if he cost anymore than $650k.
  • Yes I would only on a 1 year deal though
    Nothing over 700k
  • I'm looking forward to see him shine in this new Parramatta team. He played outstanding football surrounded at times by very average footballers. This time when fit, he should just play his normal game and the results will come. Payment, it's none of my concern, the administration now know what their doing so I'm sure Hayne will be paid what his worth. BA will not want a player being payed $900 000+ with the form he showed this season. So hopefully Hayne comes back, signs a one year contract & earn the respect of our supporter base & the league community. He has a lot of challenges but he can do it, he very skilful but most important he has a great footy brain. His hart with the Eels, I feel this club can bring the best out of him, he knows if he fails in any way, his time is all but over. So bring him back I can't wait to see him in our colours!!
