The boys today had their first session with performance psychologist Jonah Oliver and it was all good. He is currently the Performance Psychologist for Essendon Football Club (AFL), Brisbane Roar A-League team, Tekno Autosports (V8 Supercars), Australian Mens Water Polo Team, Tennis Australia and the QLD institute of sport.
I heard he is going to be talking to the boys on a regular basis right through the preseason and season proper. A great initiative by Ricky who is not frightened to bring in outside help (unlike his predecessor).
On his website he shares his philosophy on good athletes and mental toughness;
GOOD ATHLETES: “Good athletes play well when they feel good, great athletes play well no matter what they feel”
MENTAL TOUGHNESS: “Mental Toughness is not what you do when you feel positive, confident, and calm, it’s what you do when you feel negative, worried and stressed.”

thanks for update Jimmy, we need this guy lol
One only sesh Frankie?
This guy is really good. I think he will do wonders with the boys heads. So many time over the last few years we have lost games by losing our mental toughness and we give up all too easy.
As well as working mentally through all the coaching debacles, change of game styles etc.
Hayne is someone that has to again learn to believe in himself and his talent. He has the chance to become a great player instead of an average player.
There's nothing better than winning to boost player confidence and morale, we saw last year when a ball was dropped or a try was scored against us about 75% of the team dropped their head and the opposition would score a try soon after. As seen in the polar opposites of 2009, the best way to win games and get confidence back is through defence; Ricky has seemed to put this on top of the team's to-do list. If we can get our defence right at the beginning of the year, we have the cattle in attack to score plenty of tries.
Yep definatley will prove to be a great decision. Won't happen over night but regular sessions over time will teach these boys how to feed off adversity and having their back to the wall. Or how to win without taking the foot off oppositions throat when sailing
Isn't this exactly what so many of us were screaming for 2 - 3 years ago?
Someone else said it - Ricky is prepared to bring in people to help were SK wasn't - good signs.
