I'm thinking now, why would Leniu sign with anyone else but PNG???? They can give him 700k tax-free and that would be enough to trump any NRL club

Even though the players get tax free payments the salary cap still applies so spots are limited I'd say. PNG will get pick of the litter but 🤣
I think people honestly forget this part of the scenario. PNG have spent roughly $4.5mil on their current squad. If they sign Cleary they would've spent half the cap on 8 players. Which means they need to sign another 22 players on for a total of $6mil (currently). PNG have 100% been told in advance what the new cap would be because they are banking on the increase in order to sign their remaining squad. There is no way they can fit everyone in for $6mil unless they are all dev quality.

You realise player managers also knew that new clubs were entering the comp and a new TV deal was likely to increase the salary cap. The managers planned for this that's why so many players from all over the league are going to market on November 1st.
