Cayless send-off a Careless Affair

Cayless send-off a careless affairBy Phil RothfieldFrom: The Daily TelegraphSeptember 06, 2010 12:00AMTHE Parramatta Eels are an undisciplined rabble who saved their worst performance of the season for the send-off of club legend Nathan Cayless on Saturday night.I can't recall a first-grade rugby league team playing with such little respect for the football. It was atrocious.Where were the four or five ball carries and then a kick for territory? Did it happen once? The Parramatta players think and play like the Harlem Globetrotters. Every now and then the razzle dazzle pays off and they score some spectacular footy tries. But there is no structure to their football. I lost count of the times the Eels made breaks early in the tackle count against the Warriors yet threw the football away with suicidal passes. What's wrong with taking the tackle and getting up for a quick play-the-ball?It's this poor execution that has let the club down all season. Old Denis Fitzgerald supporters want to blame the board for the fact the team has bombed out of the finals. These are the facts. The board has overseen a major restructure of the Leagues and football clubs and embraced a membership drive which has improved finances by $2.5 million a year. They are not responsible for the sloppy defence, the lack of discipline with the football or the fact the team only won 10 of their 24 games after starting the season as premiership favourites. That's Daniel Anderson's responsibility. The buck stops with the coach. Always has, always will. The lowlightBy Phil RothfieldFrom: The Daily TelegraphSeptember 06, 2010 12:00AMThe attack on the Parramatta Eels board for signing Cowboys prop Carl Webb is so far off the mark it’s ridiculous. Only one man made the decision to sign Webb – coach Daniel Anderson. Only one man made the decision to release Feliti Mateo – Daniel Anderson. This poor recruitment is the very reason the club rightly made enquiries with Stephen Kearney

  • i hate that red cheeked idiot.

He is the biggest joke of a reporter and gives me hope in the fact that if i ever fall to the lowest of lows and cannot get employed anywhere i know i will get a job at the Daily Telegraph.
  • The Truth on Matteo. Anderson didn't want him. Thats A disspointment.

Phil Rothfield wrote the Truth on that One. Parramatta Supporters need to know the Truth.
  • In all fairness, I tend to agree with this article. Parra were pathetic and played in a manner that would swear the other players had no respect for their captain at all.

Of course, we know that isn't the case but for an 'outsider looking in', you'd be forgiven for thinking it.
  • He does get it right once in a blue moon. Sadly he is right this time. DA has complete control even though people think otherwise.
  • PA, He stole your scoop and didnt even give you credit! He's an idiot!
  • Rothfield's highlight of the year was something to do with the Sharks (team he supports). The guy is an idiot and cops it every week with his dumb blogs with the Daily Telegraph.
  • Is there more to this than we know,is there some divide between the older players and the younger ones? Comments from Cayless and Hindmarsh along the lines of " the talent is there but the attitude needs to change" and "we aren't sticking to the game plan". These 2 are the co-captains of the side and if there is an attitude problem why aren't they addressing it? If they are getting away from the game plan than who is leading the change?
  • Stating the bleeding obvious is not reporting, it is regurgitation !

So being offered a contract similar to current contract is no offer at all.......mmmmmmmm!

Fact was he was had been offered $4ook per season more than x 2 (twice the amount parra offered. FACT !

the rest well my budgie could have wrote that.

true apart from the factual Mateo part.

Really sounds like a Biased report to me,

I wonder what the real agenda is ??? MMMMMMMMMM !!!

"The general consensus is the bulldogs are a well run club.
A club currently getting taken to court for the alleged bullying of Joseph Topine is apparently interested in a player taking his current club to court for bullying.
I don't think so, a club…"
