We have the best record against the Tigers over the last six years, say from 2017, than any other club: winning 10 of the last 12 (83.3%). The next best is against the Dogs (9 of the last 12 at 75%).

But who can forget last year's round-six Easter demoralizing Easter Monday 20-21 loss.

The Tigers were also 0-5 then and last placed as they are this year.

Surely, they will seek atonement after being slaughtered 46-12 by the Broncos.

At least, we got partial revenge later in round-seventeen at Leichardt downing that mob 28-20.

It is interesting that many media commentators are still calling the Eels "heavyweights" of the competition. We'll see how long that lasts if we don't start climbing the ladder.

Bookmakers, meanwhile, have us more of a mid-ranger at $26.00 (9th) just outside the eight kind of team; a tad ahead of the likes of the Dogs, Warriors ($34) and Dolphins ($31).

Against the Roosters, in our R5 28-20 loss, we put in a mixed performance.

The home-town officiating, poor footy IQ from some individuals (perhaps due to scoreboard pressure or brain farts), along with Arthur's reluctance to more open-minded and adaptive with the bench and replace Hodgson earlier - ensured we had next to no chance. It was a mountain too high for us to climb.

However, at times, the scrambling defence and on-the-line defence and Gutho sans x-factor was outstanding: against the odds and under immense pressure.

Perhaps, it shows there might be hope, yet for long-tortured Eels fans who might find more pleasure being committed in a padded white room with crayons.

History, though, also offers a glimmer of hope.

Though the Eels are in the worst position since the 2018 spoon year, the Eels have made the finals in the past with a poor start to the season winning only 1 from 5. Actually, five times (1962, 1965, 1997, 2000, 2006) actually.

In 1965 they even had a worst start of 0/5 with only a draw to their name in round two. So, a poor start and making the finals isn't anything ground-breaking.

Perhaps, the Eels can get out of the quicksand they're in but the climb out of the hole needs to start soon.

The Tigers will also be looking to get a win on the board and make a statement about their credentials and as an improved outfit, despite all evidence to the contrary and all the basketcase rumours - Benji calling Mitchell Pearce in desperation and Benji-Sheens rifts doing the media rounds.

This game should be a cracker.

  • Anything less than a fifty point hammering of the tigers is unacceptable. No mercy.

I'd be turning the ball inside to catch ice sleeping all game.
