Tomorrow night it all begins. The 2023 season opener. Can the new Storm ambush the new us, or will we end their 18-year streak continuing our winning ways over them?
The Eels have won the last 4 straight against the Storm. It's been over two years since we lost to the Storm, we've never lost to them at Commbank (3/3) and it's been over seven years since we lost to them at Parramatta.
When it comes to the Storm in more recent times, the History Gods favour us. For now.
Can Sivo, the try-scoring king of Bankwest, equal the great Radradra's record and even surpass it?
Can Arthur be one of the rare coaches neck-and-neck against Bellamy?
There are plenty of more important considerations.
In view of our horror early run, we need the win and should be up for it, but a Sybilian inconsistency plagued us throughout 2022 week-to-week, half-to-half. Have we addressed it? Will the new team gel, early on? Will Hodgson last?
After losing regulars like Reed, Nuikore, and Ice, plenty of pundits are writing the Eels off and predicting a dip in 2023. And even though both teams are weakened and have new forward packs and we were runners up in 2022, the Storm are favorites ($1.65 to $2.15) coming into this game.
Will the Eels prove the naysayers wrong, once again?

18 year winning streak that's an unbelievable effort. Remains to be seen with so many unrecognizable players in their 17 if they can be as good
Well said, Chief. You're right : 18 straight years and 19/20 years is just nuts. It tells you a lot about the Storm culture under Bellamy-Ponissi. Last year, though, we saw a lot of un-Storm-like lapses and performances. Then there's Bellamy's talk about this being his final year, potentially (again). And their new forward pack. It all makes me wonder. I usually rate Storm as top 2-4 material. But, all in all, I'm not so sure about them either, Chief. They'll need everyone healthy and Pap back asap.
