Agree David. All very well to have the best half in the compl, but if it means you can't afford anyone else to play with him what's the point? I can't see the Cowboys winning much, and they already have him. League is a team sport. Only in individual sports like tennis does one person truly dominate.
but to get Thurston we would have to get rid of 3-4 other good players and that's just stupid we would be just where the cowboys are now with 2-3 good players and the rest are just there to make the numbers up, apart from 05 when they could afford better players to play along side Thurston, the cowboys, (with Thurston), have not threatened to go to the grand final ever and they wont.
As for a dominant halves pairing, Keating and Mortimer are rookies, the first year in the NRL, all they need is experience, also they are yet to play together in the NRL so having a go at 2 rookies and comparing them to, in some degree, to a seasoned and over valued half like Thurston is crazy talk
Who cares about Mortimer and the future.. we want to win a comp and i cant see Mortimer and Keating winning a comp together. As i have said previously you need a dominant half to win a comp! Thurston is proven and in 2011 will only be 27 years old- anyone that knows rugby league knows that isnt old for a half- he will get even better!
can't wait for you all to change your tune when one of two things may happen, 1, mortimer might sign with the bulldogs after he has finished his one year deal. he may be happy with us, but his childhood team and family legacy is at the bulldogs. 2, JT signs with the eels, then all the bagging of him will suddenly turn to praise and everyone will be saying, with thurston we will win the comp! I don't care about the money, I want a premiership! If thurston can help deliver us one then i wouldn't care if he costs us a million a year!
