As a boxer I was a huge Jeff Fenech fan, and my comment here is not in any way to lessen my respect for him as a boxer, or a genuinely good bloke. However I think it said a lot about our club post the 1986 premiership. Within 3 years we were signing retired boxers… Of course after knocking back Gene Miles when he wanted to come to Parra whilst playing for QLD.
was pretty sure he played hooker .... but the old memory isn't quite what it used to be, so I am more than ok to be wrong with that part of the ole memory recall !!!
A HUGE roar came up from the crowd when he came on, Fenech played only a couple of games then went off to try and make a boxing comeback ...... he wasn't a bad player actually from the few games I remember of him. Enthusiastic in defence, decent hands from dummy half (he played hooker).
I think he would have been better sticking to league (I think we can all recall the boxing comeback wasn't too successful!!)
I remember going to this game at Parra Stadium just to watch Jeff Fenech play. Pretty sure he only played reserve grade, not to sure how many games he played, but was huge news at the time.
