Welcome to the new 1Eyed Eel

Welcome to the new 1Eyed Eel.

This is a long overdue facelift for the site, but more so it's an upgrade to the technology underpinning the site that will allow us to implement some key changes to the way the site operates.

For a long time now, this site has been conflicted. On the one hand, this is the largest Parramatta Eels website on the Internet. Thousands visit the site every day with the express purpose of finding out the latest on our beloved Parramatta Eels.

On the flipside, over its 15-year history, this site has developed its own community of followers - and for many, this site is their primary social media destination. As such, there has always been a desire from those folks to discuss the world beyond the Eels and Rugby League, and as social discussions are prone to do, those discussions can get particularly robust.

With the new platform, we're able to create multiple categories of blogs and operate them independently.

I've also been conscious of the fact that while adults are the primary users of this site, that the site's popularity means it is visited by all-comers, which has made me particular about what's seen on the front page. I now have controls to be able to show different content to members as I do for anonymous users.

The upshot is the site is now better placed to provide different experiences to different kinds of users. Those who want to come here just for the footy stuff can use the site in that fashion but we have more leeway to allow the discussion of non-football topics. Non-members will not see any social chat topics.

As you can see the site has a design refresh, and we thank our very talented and generous designer Fuuiii for that.

And in general, the site is now just a lot more modern.

I've been through a lot of website refreshes and all are challenging. Change is always disconcerting. However, we've tried to keep everything as familiar as we possibly can. We're still getting used to the new platform ourselves and discovering what we can and can't do with it, and over the off-season we'll experiment with various ideas.

From an editorial point of view, we're introducing the 1Eyed View. This harks back to the original incarnation of site, which was basically me, just blogging about Parramatta and I'm aiming to do a lot more of that in 2019. Super will also be posting regulalry to the 1Eyed view and we're looking to build up a stable of what we're called 'masthead writers' who will regularly contribute deeper, considered articles to the site, as part of a broader editorial strategy.

Amongst other things you'll notice is a much better mobile experience, as well as new chat module, that has the ability to host multiple chats. We've got greater ability to better integrates groups into the site. And the platform is actively being developed with new features, unlike the old platform which ceased being supported many years ago.

As I said, I'm sure there will be things many of you find disconcerting or flat-out don't like about the new platform/site. We'll do our best to fix any annoyances but like all change, things will obviously become more familiar over time.

Nice job Phil/Super/Fuuii, looks great and so far functionality feels pretty spot on. Well done!

  • Interesting reason for the transition delay. Our provider allowed 2 to 4 hours to move across all the comments. It took more than 2 days! Guess he didn't realise how active y'all are.

    • Hahaha!

So full history of the site has been moved across?

      • Yep I believe so!!!

  • Nice work!

  • Thanks Phil and all involved for the great effort you guys put in

  • Great work Phil. I have using this site forever and a day and it is a welcome upgrade.

Merry Christmas to you and your family.

  • This new site is messed up. I went to my old link and it kept logging me in as different people. Chief, Outrunna and even Super. 403375681?profile=RESIZE_930x

The end of Bevan French?

Bevan French's NRL career may need to be reborn following the start the Eels have had this season, with many of the plaudits going to Parramatta's back three of Clint Gutherson, Blake Ferguson and Maika Sivo.

The back trio have all had outstanding starts to 2019, with them totalling a whopping 2,300 running metres between them so far. All three are in the top 21 metre eaters and are the only back three of any club to appear in the top 21. For context, not a single…

Eels fall to fast finishing Roosters

The Parramatta Eels have gone down to the Sydney Roosters 32-18 at ANZ Stadium on Friday night.

It was the first loss for the Blue and Golds in the 2019 season, but a performance that signalled they're a different team to the wooden spooners of 2018.

While most pundits expected an improved performance from the Eels, few predicted the battle they would hand the reigning Premiers and World Champions.

Parramatta lost Tepai Moeroa in the warm-up, forcing…

Lifting the lid on pec tears

Image result for nathan brown parramatta eels 2019

Parramatta Eels lock Nathan Brown is the first pectoral tear casualty of the 2019 season. It's an injury that can see players sidelined for up to 14 weeks and has also become more prevalent in recent seasons.

Across 2017 and 2018, 19 players went down with pec tears.

The injury itself isn't a tear in the pectoral muscle, it's a tear in the tendon that connects the muscle to the upper arm. If the injury occurs at the muscle-end of the tendon, recovery is…
