Super Sivo

“I just want to be Maika.”

Parramatta’s new Fijian winger was keen to distance himself from comparisons with Semi Radradra and told media this week he wants to carve out his own place in the game.

Yet, while he may not like the comparisons, early indications are that Sivo - like Radradra - is set to become a firm Eel’s favourite. Indeed, while Radradra always seemed a little uncomfortable talking to media and shy amongst the fanbase, Sivo’s early interviews are charming and he wears a big Fijian grin that never fails to delight.

In particular, Sivo beams with warmth and pride when discussing his family and village back in Fiji.

“They sent me a couple of photos from the weekend. They were sitting down at my Uncle’s house watching the game, there was nearly a hundred of them watching the game.”

Indeed, Sivo became noticeably emotional as he discussed the chance he has to lead a path forward for others.

“I was the first one from the village to come and play here, I feel more responsible… I want to set an example [for the kids].”

Sivo laughed when asked about he disallowed try. “I thought was on there”, before adding “hopefully this week”.

Captain Clint Gutherson said the “big boy” was nervous for his debut. “He’s smiling again this week. He’s going to be much more confident, leading into the game… he’s just going to do his thing again.”

We love you already, Maika.

  • Nice article on Maika on NRL.com as well.

  • We do love our cult heroes at Parra

Guru, Tooks, Sideshow Bob, Fui, Semi, now Maika

  • What a great young man this guy is. At the moment it feels awesome to be an Eels fan & I hope Sivo becomes part of a Parra team that is ready to realise their true potential.

  • I think it was the new grub on the block Latrell Mitchell who also took this line.

Compared to Inglis and Maninga his reply went along the lines of, "Well actually I am neither of them I am Latrell Mitchell"

Playing similarities do not make another player a clone of the original, but media and fans alike always denigrate new kids on the block by NOT accepting the player for who and what he is in his own right. He MUST be a clone.

  • Sivo was sucking in the big ones near the end of the game.

What a luxury for the side when you have Fergo, Sivo, Taka and The King returning your first three or four hit up.

The end of Bevan French?

Bevan French's NRL career may need to be reborn following the start the Eels have had this season, with many of the plaudits going to Parramatta's back three of Clint Gutherson, Blake Ferguson and Maika Sivo.

The back trio have all had outstanding starts to 2019, with them totalling a whopping 2,300 running metres between them so far. All three are in the top 21 metre eaters and are the only back three of any club to appear in the top 21. For context, not a single…

Eels fall to fast finishing Roosters

The Parramatta Eels have gone down to the Sydney Roosters 32-18 at ANZ Stadium on Friday night.

It was the first loss for the Blue and Golds in the 2019 season, but a performance that signalled they're a different team to the wooden spooners of 2018.

While most pundits expected an improved performance from the Eels, few predicted the battle they would hand the reigning Premiers and World Champions.

Parramatta lost Tepai Moeroa in the warm-up, forcing…

Lifting the lid on pec tears

Image result for nathan brown parramatta eels 2019

Parramatta Eels lock Nathan Brown is the first pectoral tear casualty of the 2019 season. It's an injury that can see players sidelined for up to 14 weeks and has also become more prevalent in recent seasons.

Across 2017 and 2018, 19 players went down with pec tears.

The injury itself isn't a tear in the pectoral muscle, it's a tear in the tendon that connects the muscle to the upper arm. If the injury occurs at the muscle-end of the tendon, recovery is…
