Mahoney hungry for big 2019

Mahoney hungry for big 2019

Young Eels hooker Reed Mahoney says the Eels have had a greater emphasis on ball work during this pre-season.

“We’ve done plenty of footy, obviously the way we went last year, our footy wasn’t up to NRL standard and we’ve had a bit emphasis on really getting those little things right and all the ballwork we’ve been doing in between con[tact] games and conditioning drills is really making everyone better,” Mahoney has told parraeels.com.au.

Mahoney said he’d had a personal focus on adapting his body to the demands of pre-season training.

“I’ve come back in the off-season hungrier than ever,” he said. “Everyone here at the Eels is really putting into the extra effort and...buying into what we believe in at Parra and the ability we have throughout the team to go all the way.”

Mahoney said that Mitch Moses and Clint Gutherson had taken the time to provide mentoring roles with him this season and that the forwards were all working hard at “connecting together on the field.”

“We’re really trying to build that trust with each other so we can play good footy.”

  • Reed, has the fundamentals required to make it in first grade. Now it’s op to coaching, discipline,  desire and a bit of luck with injury.

  • I hope he has a great year along with all the players and we come around 10 place  any think less it be a bad year

  • Too small at the moment. Big heart but needs to bulk up if he wants to stop the 120kg props.

Not sure why he's posted at 180cm, he's probably around 173.

    • That's the nature of young players Chief, it's all well and good criticising BA for not promoting enough young guys, but if and when they are, they are rarely, if ever, the finished article.

  • Mahoney is a future rep player for sure! Hes got a good footy brain, good defensively and an all round great little player. Hope he remains at the Eels long term.

  • Really like this kid, hopefully he starts the season as our number 1 dumyh half.  Kaysa is a plodder.

    • Pritchard is heaps quicker than Mahoney. Bigger too. Mahoney is probably smarter and hopefully less breakable.

  • Mahoooooooney! Going to be using that a lot if he makes a mistake.. Have to say the kid didnt do much wrong last season, he should build into a solid defense dummy half this year. but needs to work on creating a threat from dummy half with with a kicking and running game .. our forwards get picked off in numbers by the defense as its all too predictable

  • I like what Mahoney produced in his debut year and I believe he has the potential to develope into a very good first grader.

The biggest threat to Mahoneys career at Parra in young Schnieder, who at 17 years was brought into Fittlers emergi8ng Blues last season. He goes alright in the preseason contact stuff at traing too! He is also a big kid for a hooker in the Ronny Hilditch mould, tough and skilful.

    • I tend to agree Rowdy.

Schneider i believe will be the long term solution at number 9.

Skillful. Big, Tough and very smart player. Great service, kicking gamr and can goal kick. Even more is a leader.

The kid is only 18yo but already better than Mahoney. Killing 1st grade training this year.!

The end of Bevan French?

Bevan French's NRL career may need to be reborn following the start the Eels have had this season, with many of the plaudits going to Parramatta's back three of Clint Gutherson, Blake Ferguson and Maika Sivo.

The back trio have all had outstanding starts to 2019, with them totalling a whopping 2,300 running metres between them so far. All three are in the top 21 metre eaters and are the only back three of any club to appear in the top 21. For context, not a single…

Eels fall to fast finishing Roosters

The Parramatta Eels have gone down to the Sydney Roosters 32-18 at ANZ Stadium on Friday night.

It was the first loss for the Blue and Golds in the 2019 season, but a performance that signalled they're a different team to the wooden spooners of 2018.

While most pundits expected an improved performance from the Eels, few predicted the battle they would hand the reigning Premiers and World Champions.

Parramatta lost Tepai Moeroa in the warm-up, forcing…

Lifting the lid on pec tears

Image result for nathan brown parramatta eels 2019

Parramatta Eels lock Nathan Brown is the first pectoral tear casualty of the 2019 season. It's an injury that can see players sidelined for up to 14 weeks and has also become more prevalent in recent seasons.

Across 2017 and 2018, 19 players went down with pec tears.

The injury itself isn't a tear in the pectoral muscle, it's a tear in the tendon that connects the muscle to the upper arm. If the injury occurs at the muscle-end of the tendon, recovery is…
