Happy 1Eyed New Year

Happy 1Eyed New Year

As 1Eyed Eel moves into its 16th year of providing a voice to Parramatta Eels supporters, we’d like to wish everyone a very happy New Year.

I’m really excited about what’s in store for the site in 2019. The last year was a particularly busy one for me professionally and 1Eyed didn’t get a lot of my attention. However, one of the upshots of everything that happened, is I’m in a position this year where I can put more resources into the site. One of the things that took place last year, was that Elliott (SuperEel) joined my business and we’d both like to find additional time going forward to work on new projects - as there are a bunch of things we do day-to-day, that we can leverage on 1Eyed Eel.

Those new projects were part of the reason we finally did the site upgrade. I know some of you have found the transition uncomfortable, and we’ve still got issues that need to be ironed out, but it gives us a platform to do new stuff into the future. The old platform was basically unsupported and was just going to become increasingly problematic and unreliable, whereas we can now at least work with the platform vendor to try and get bugs fixed and features improved or added.

As for our club and team, I must admit I’ve had some pretty dark times looking towards the future. It is really difficult to identify any area related to the club, where we can say ‘we do this better than anyone’. Whether it be the on-field performance, the playing roster, the football operations or the business side of the club, we’re not in a particularly good place anywhere. We at least seem to have identified some of our failings but we seem miles away from getting anywhere near the Premiership pacesetters on any fronts.

However, just recently my inner-unicorn has managed to kick its way out of the stable and I’m going to head into 2019 with at least some level of cautious optimism. Talented young kids in the roster are always exciting and that’s what I’m looking forward to in 2019 - seeing how the likes of Brown, Mahoney, Salmon and Utoikamanu step up. I’ve managed to convince myself that Mitchell Moses is capable of taking the next step in his career and that Junior Paulo and Shaun Lane are going to give our forward pack the size they need to compete and lay the platform the team needs.

And I”m dying to get into the Western Sydney Stadium. After a couple of years of sufferig through ANZ Stadium, which really started to take its toll on how much I enjoyed my footy last year, I can’t wait to rediscover the buzz of playing in our own Stadium again.

So Happy New Year everyone and let’s hope the might Eels surprise the entire Rugby League fraternity and rediscover what made 2017 such an incredible year.

  • Happy new year Phil.

I too am cautiously optimistic about the coming year. I thought that Lane was one of the better forwards in the game and Fergo one of the best backs. I think having Potter on board with Kidwell can only help too.

The club is far better situated both on and off the field so there can’t be many excuses this season, it’s make or break for coaches and most of the players which is the main reason I believe we will go at least far better than last season.

    • It’s fine Phil.

      Loving it.

    • It's basically exactly the same in terms of navigation. You've raised one issue (chat) which I can't fix because its platform related. In all honesty, if you have such an issue with it, move on and find somewhere else to post. Pretty much every one has provided constructive feedback and we've made a lot of improvements based on that. All of the navigation choices are mine, and I'm not going anywhere unfortunately.

      • Wow, mummy just slapped daddy at the dinner table

        • Don’t go Fong

          • Tell your story walking Fwank...

Your fascination with Grunta is somewhat worrying. Someone call the feds. Take it as a given, Grunta was suspended for life I believe and hasn’t been on the new site, ever.

Now, if he said he would do your wife or said some crap about someone’s Mum or Dad, get the root over it Princess. If he actually DID do your wife, that’s another story. It’s cyber space / social media Princess so build a phucking bridge.

Every time you mention him it’s more points for Grunta and you have looked foolish for many years on here, never more than now.

Pick your bottom lip up and head to LU.

            Theres a good Fwank.

  • Im really hoping having a proper home helps us 100 percent

cos we are gonna need it imo

    • Gotta love social media, brings out the inner dickhead in every troglodyte.

      • After your comment FT, I’d have to agree.

  • Happy New Year Phil. All the best to you mate

The end of Bevan French?

Bevan French's NRL career may need to be reborn following the start the Eels have had this season, with many of the plaudits going to Parramatta's back three of Clint Gutherson, Blake Ferguson and Maika Sivo.

The back trio have all had outstanding starts to 2019, with them totalling a whopping 2,300 running metres between them so far. All three are in the top 21 metre eaters and are the only back three of any club to appear in the top 21. For context, not a single…

Eels fall to fast finishing Roosters

The Parramatta Eels have gone down to the Sydney Roosters 32-18 at ANZ Stadium on Friday night.

It was the first loss for the Blue and Golds in the 2019 season, but a performance that signalled they're a different team to the wooden spooners of 2018.

While most pundits expected an improved performance from the Eels, few predicted the battle they would hand the reigning Premiers and World Champions.

Parramatta lost Tepai Moeroa in the warm-up, forcing…

Lifting the lid on pec tears

Image result for nathan brown parramatta eels 2019

Parramatta Eels lock Nathan Brown is the first pectoral tear casualty of the 2019 season. It's an injury that can see players sidelined for up to 14 weeks and has also become more prevalent in recent seasons.

Across 2017 and 2018, 19 players went down with pec tears.

The injury itself isn't a tear in the pectoral muscle, it's a tear in the tendon that connects the muscle to the upper arm. If the injury occurs at the muscle-end of the tendon, recovery is…
