Gutho gets the nod

Eels supporters have given the nod to Clint Gutherson to be given the mantle of sole captain for the 2019 season, with Nathan Brown the second elect.

Mitchell Moses also had his share of support with those wanting a player in the spine to take charge of the team.

Meanwhile, Tim Mannah couldn't register a single vote.

While Gutherson is popular amongst supporters and assumed the duties last years, some Eels fans still have reservations about his captaincy. The fact that he is likely to play from the back is a major concern for fans.

Brown polled strongly collecting a third of votes, with his promoters praising his toughness.

For some fans, Mitchell Moses needs to be given complete responsibility for the team. He'll be given the responsibility of being the club's primary playmaker and for some, it makes sense that he is handed the reigns entirely. Given he had a disappointing season in 2018, one suspects he'd only need a big year to rocket up the preferences as a long-term leader.

There was consense that Tim Mannah's time leading the team on the field should come to an end. It seems a lack of recent success and the fact that Mannah is likely to spend significant time coming off the bench in 2019 has seen him fall out of favour as a preferred leader.

  • fair Call on Gutho - I went brown however the tribe has spoken. Results show that there is always 1 idiot - voting for Gower - I’m sure they thought they were “funny” —- loser hahaha

    • Across the entire roster, Gower is considered to be the "cultural leader". If he were a regular starter, he'd be captain.

      • Gower is an intelligent wise player. If he was a regular I would have voted for him.

  • I agree Gower would make a great captain but this will be his last season so they need a more long term captain for stability. Nothing funnier  except Moses for captain.

  • Gutho is the right guy for the job.. just needs to stay healthy

  • I hit the wrong button. I wanted Timmy to be the team mascot but Gower came up instead

  • Problem is fans vote for who they like and have no idea what players offer at training or on field.

  • Only 50 people voted

    Does not mean much

  • All for Gutho being sole captain

  • Sad thing is nobody jumps out saying pick me.Just another highlight of bad recruitment.Id have to lean towards Moses for the simple reason he has to show from the start full ownership of the team now.I dont want another year seeing him acting like he still in U12s when something dont come off.I know alot like the idea of Gutho but i think it maybe expecting a bit much considering i can see him playing multiple positions again.I feel abit sorry for Mannah as his heart is there and his isnt as bad as alot make out but simple fact is his to nice and days are numbered. Was thinking maybe French but remembered if he had to talk to the reff withing 20meters of the sideline he would be blown into the 3rd row ;)...Long term if he keeps developing as a player i could see Mahoney being the answer, just seems to have stink in him needed....Normans gone now so Moses its all yours. No more excuses

The end of Bevan French?

Bevan French's NRL career may need to be reborn following the start the Eels have had this season, with many of the plaudits going to Parramatta's back three of Clint Gutherson, Blake Ferguson and Maika Sivo.

The back trio have all had outstanding starts to 2019, with them totalling a whopping 2,300 running metres between them so far. All three are in the top 21 metre eaters and are the only back three of any club to appear in the top 21. For context, not a single…

Eels fall to fast finishing Roosters

The Parramatta Eels have gone down to the Sydney Roosters 32-18 at ANZ Stadium on Friday night.

It was the first loss for the Blue and Golds in the 2019 season, but a performance that signalled they're a different team to the wooden spooners of 2018.

While most pundits expected an improved performance from the Eels, few predicted the battle they would hand the reigning Premiers and World Champions.

Parramatta lost Tepai Moeroa in the warm-up, forcing…

Lifting the lid on pec tears

Image result for nathan brown parramatta eels 2019

Parramatta Eels lock Nathan Brown is the first pectoral tear casualty of the 2019 season. It's an injury that can see players sidelined for up to 14 weeks and has also become more prevalent in recent seasons.

Across 2017 and 2018, 19 players went down with pec tears.

The injury itself isn't a tear in the pectoral muscle, it's a tear in the tendon that connects the muscle to the upper arm. If the injury occurs at the muscle-end of the tendon, recovery is…
