Clint Gutherson has embrace the captaincy role at Parramatta and wants to continue the role into the years ahead.
In a podcast on the Eels website, Gutherson admitting it was a surprise when Brad Arthur approached him, but said he was “honoured and privileged” to co-captain the club last year, alongside stalwarts Tim Mannah and Beau Scott.
“I just said to Timmy and Beau I want to learn as much as I can off you about leading, and hopefully this year and into the next couple of years, I can keep learning and eventually take it on full-time,” Gutherson said.
“I want to be that person that people can come to, and look after the team and have each other’s back.”
Gutheron said he very much tried to lead by example.
“I’m still learning the talk side of things and how to be a leader but I like to lead with my actions in training and on the field, leave nothing in the tank and put everything I have into this team.I love this team, I love the staff, I love everyone involved in the club and I just want to put 100 percent effort into everything I do for this club.”
Gutherson said that, despite the club’s horror year in 2018, there was a positive vibe around the club during pre-season and that the players were keen to put last year behind them.
“After the year that we did have, you want to get back quicker, because you want to forget about it and your want to move on,” Gutherson said. “You want to fix the wrongs straight away. I know personally I’m just extremely eager to start playing football because that’s the only way you can put it to bed.”
“Everyone’s come here positive and ripped into training.”
Gutherson also said that while he was happy to play wherever he was need, he wanted the Eels fullback role.

I dont care were he plays as long he and all the eels players have a great year
I care as well. After what we have been thru the last few years with club officials and players going off the rails he is a breath of fresh air. Furthermore he is a great FB to boot
Got a lot of time for Gutho.wants to be here and be part of the Eels long term .hope he has a big year a long with the rest of the team .we can only hope hey
Losing him in 2017 was such a blow.he was absolutely on fire up until that moment and may have been the difference in the finals .hopefully he can recapture that form.
LOL
Think Timmy got Gutho to join the Hillsong so he can learn about "leading"
Isn’t he holding off re signing to see what happens at the end of this year anyway?
Gutho could be the next "Mayor of Parramatta" has come from another junior area but loves the club and truly wants to be here. Clinton is also a fullback and a leader, just as Ken Thornett was. He does have a long way to go to emulate Thornett but has all the ingredients to succeed.
I’m not sold. Last year he lead with his voice rather then his body. It seems to take a season for players to regain confidence after a reconstruction so it’s now or never for Gutho
