Gutherson wants captaincy (and fullback)

Clint Gutherson has embrace the captaincy role at Parramatta and wants to continue the role into the years ahead.

In a podcast on the Eels website, Gutherson admitting it was a surprise when Brad Arthur approached him, but said he was “honoured and privileged” to co-captain the club last year, alongside stalwarts Tim Mannah and Beau Scott.

“I just said to Timmy and Beau I want to learn as much as I can off you about leading, and hopefully this year and into the next couple of years, I can keep learning and eventually take it on full-time,” Gutherson said.

“I want to be that person that people can come to, and look after the team and have each other’s back.”

Gutheron said he very much tried to lead by example.

“I’m still learning the talk side of things and how to be a leader but I like to lead with my actions in training and on the field, leave nothing in the tank and put everything I have into this team.I love this team, I love the staff, I love everyone involved in the club and I just want to put 100 percent effort into everything I do for this club.”

Gutherson said that, despite the club’s horror year in 2018, there was a positive vibe around the club during pre-season and that the players were keen to put last year behind them.

“After the year that we did have, you want to get back quicker, because you want to forget about it and your want to move on,” Gutherson said. “You want to fix the wrongs straight away. I know personally I’m just extremely eager to start playing football because that’s  the only way you can put it to bed.”

“Everyone’s come here positive and ripped into training.”

Gutherson also said that while he was happy to play wherever he was need, he wanted the Eels fullback role.

  • I dont care were he plays as long he and all the eels players have a great year

  • I care as well. After what we have been thru the last few years with club officials and players going off the rails he is a breath of fresh air. Furthermore he is a great FB to boot

  • Got a lot of time for Gutho.wants to be here and be part of the Eels long term .hope he has a big year a long with the rest of the team .we can only hope hey

  • Losing him in 2017 was such a blow.he was absolutely on fire up until that moment and may have been the difference in the finals .hopefully he can recapture that form.

    • LOL

    • Think Timmy got Gutho to join the Hillsong so he can learn about "leading"

  • I like Gutho but I hope he gets neither.

I prefer him as a centre and he’s not a captains bumhole. A half or hooker should be captain imo.

  • Isn’t he holding off re signing to see what happens at the end of this year anyway?

  • Gutho could be the next "Mayor of Parramatta" has come from another junior area but loves the club and truly wants to be here. Clinton is also a fullback and a leader, just as Ken Thornett was. He does have a long way to go to emulate Thornett but has all the ingredients to succeed.

  • I’m not sold. Last year he lead with his voice rather then his body. It seems to take a season for players to regain confidence after a reconstruction so it’s now or never for Gutho

The end of Bevan French?

Bevan French's NRL career may need to be reborn following the start the Eels have had this season, with many of the plaudits going to Parramatta's back three of Clint Gutherson, Blake Ferguson and Maika Sivo.

The back trio have all had outstanding starts to 2019, with them totalling a whopping 2,300 running metres between them so far. All three are in the top 21 metre eaters and are the only back three of any club to appear in the top 21. For context, not a single…

The Parramatta Eels have gone down to the Sydney Roosters 32-18 at ANZ Stadium on Friday night.

It was the first loss for the Blue and Golds in the 2019 season, but a performance that signalled they're a different team to the wooden spooners of 2018.

While most pundits expected an improved performance from the Eels, few predicted the battle they would hand the reigning Premiers and World Champions.

Parramatta lost Tepai Moeroa in the warm-up, forcing…

Lifting the lid on pec tears

Image result for nathan brown parramatta eels 2019

Parramatta Eels lock Nathan Brown is the first pectoral tear casualty of the 2019 season. It's an injury that can see players sidelined for up to 14 weeks and has also become more prevalent in recent seasons.

Across 2017 and 2018, 19 players went down with pec tears.

The injury itself isn't a tear in the pectoral muscle, it's a tear in the tendon that connects the muscle to the upper arm. If the injury occurs at the muscle-end of the tendon, recovery is…
