Christchurch attacks

In 2009 I had the pleasure of visiting the beautiful city of Christchurch. Despite the bitter cold I consider it to be the most charming city in NZ, and after the earthquakes of 2011 & 2016 it seems almost cruel that this beautiful part of the world would suffer in such a way.

I'd like all 1EE'ers to join me in sending their condolences and prayers to the people of Christchurch and all of NZ.

Be assured that whilst these appalling attacks were carried out in NZ, they are targeting all free peoples. The best defence is to continue to live free.

That is all.

            • With the mainstream media being a business, what benefit do they gain by giving " special treatment" to the muslim community?

How does it benefit the govt to go soft on muslims?

Coming off 20 odd years as muslims as the new red scare / yellow peril I'd say it's a bit rich to claim they have been pandered to .

As for no coverage of O.S. happenings in regards to muslim attacks, newsmedia plays to the local audience. Very few Australians are emotionally invested in something that happens in Lebanon, but NZ is just over the back fence.

" There but for the grace of god go I " etc

              •

“With the mainstream media being a business, what benefit do they gain by giving " special treatment" to the muslim community? “

So youre saying that that the majority of our media isn’t skewed to the far left in Australia just to be clear ?  I’d say given the current events in NZ many Australians would be emotionally invested in non Muslims being attacked around the globe .  It’s certainly very very relevant.

                • I'd argue that the mainstream media is not inherently structurally biased one-way or the other, but as a commercial operation responds on a micro level to what will deliver best ratings / sales to an audience. Australian society has been becoming much more progressive and open as time has passed, and therefore media reporting is inline with the majority if societies values in order to appeal to and attract viewership / sales.

Conservatives are leaning on the tail wagging the dog narrative of a media conspiracy that slants coverage to the left rather than admit that they are losing the " culture wars" as western societies become increasingly progressive.

P.S. with a media landscape as dominated by the Murdoch empire as ours it's a tough sell to say the Australian media are all a bunch of lefties.1523663178?profile=RESIZE_930x

                  • You mean this Murdoch ? The ones that’s trying to rally up people on Facebook which has nothing to do with them to delete their friends for having different opinions ?

                    That Murdoch ?

                    1524594279?profile=RESIZE_930x

                    • Excellent example ol' wiz. In current social climate after old mates attack, far right and white supremacist types are on the nose with the vast majority of mainstream society.

Thus your seeing a glut of articles expressing similar sentiments in order to attract viewership / sales.

It's not a politically driven conspiracy but rather what would be called in the marketing industry audience appeal or even product placement.

Aint no new world order, just the structural outcomes of a commercial operation.

PS. Pretty sure Murdoch doesn't own the SMH.

                    • Sorry , yeah you’re right ( I mean left ) , Fairfax , got mixed up . So your reasoning for the world stopping to mourn this attack and ignoring Islamic attacks seems to be nothing other than a marketing angle .

Why did we hear virtually nothing about the Islamic refugee in Italy yesterday that took a bus load of kids and tried to set fire to them as he was upset that boat people didn’t get enough attention?   that was in Italy , are you going to tell me that we also have no emotional ties to Italy here in Australia considering our massive Italian communities?

I don’t buy into the new world order crap , but I do buy into the United Nations being financed and run by Muslims . I also know our very own ABC is far far left , as is SBS . Schools , Universities , pretty much any government organisation , councils , and now even our sports clubs have become cesspits of lefty influences .

Did the media dive onto our smartphones after one of the many Islamic attacks we’ve had on our soil or abroad and tell us to delete that crazy Muslim on our freinds list who keeps writing those evil verses about infidels from his Koran every morning ?

                    • Like I said above, the Italian refugee fire, while reported, just isn't going to generate an emotional reponse for most Australians because it happened in a place far removed from our day to day experiences. Christchurch conversly happened right there in a country and culture just like ours that many of us have visited, so it resonates. "That could us".

Your listing of all of the organizations within Oz society that have a " lefty" bend supports my assertion that mainsteam Australian society is increasingly progressive and it's institutions reflect this.

                      1553780388?profile=RESIZE_710x

As for the Muslims running the U.N? I don't think I even need to dignify that one with a response.

                    •  .  Which is virtually what my point was in my first comment . What are you arguing about ?

Theres an old game I like to play on here that’s settled many a debate . Very basic and kinda fun if you’d care to play ? Firstly one person names an example of say a left leaning media platform and then the other names and example of the opposite ,

ie , you’d say maybe Alan Jones , and I’d reply with the obvious Weed Aly and so on until one runs out of suitable examples .

In the meantime heres some really cool footage of the very popular and alleged ultra progressive Jim Jefferies mocking Muhammad unaware of a hidden camera filming him . As Jim’s abroad I won’t use him as an Australian example of a television show literally censoring his own opinion to promote immigration of Muslims .

Personally I have no issue with Muslims as people , I just hate their religion . If you choose your religion to dictate who you are as a person then that’s an issue for you ( not you personally because I don’t know you or your background, but you know what I mean ) ,

im not sure why you’re makimg the decision that we have no interest in hearing about the Italy event . As I said , considering we’ve just had ISIS and the Turkish prime minister threatening to non Muslims , I’m pretty sure , and back by thousands of social media comments , Australians have plenty of interest in hearing about anything involving terrorist and refugee major crimes around the globe .  Your claim is ridiculous and ignorant if you actually belive your own spin .

                    • Shit, just accidently deleted my reply.

                      Ummm the main points were:

I get my main news from news.com.au at breakky ( news limited) and NBN at dinner (fairfax). Neither could be seriously called radical  Ieft leaning. I don't do social media so can't comment on what is happening there.

If you against censorship for opinions you support, you have to stand against censorship for opinions you don't support or your a hypocrite.

I think we are arguing about whether there is a deliberate and planned collusion and conspiracy ( in the classic sense of the word) within govt and media to manipulate the Australian populus to a position or whether the news and govt rhetoric surrounding events are an outcome of wanting to appeal to mainstream sentiment for commercial or political gain.

So, is there a deep state, faceless men conspiracy to butter us all up for a muslim takeover ( why?), or will politicians and news organizations  do and say what they think the majority of the Australian populus want to here in order to achieve a commercial / political outcome?

I know and you know whats happening O.S. because we are politically engaged but most people just want to watch that MAFS garbage and would struggle to locate Turkey on a map. Guaranteed they'd be shocked to learned there's sunni and shai and wahhabi muslims.

Like the first Trump / Clinton debate when the most googled question during it was " what is a leepo?" when they were discussing Syria most people's understanding of foreign events is reactive rather than rooted in any previous knowledge of a situation.

                    • Don’t you hate when you type a reply and lose it haha . Nothing more frustrating .

We are going around in circles now , let’s change the theme .

Am I the only person who finds the NZ utterly disgusting?  Her soap boxing is almost enough to make you sick .

Here a question , why is it that nobodies asking her how this happened and this maggot wasn’t on a watch list ?  So far she’s done a great job of deflecting this onto Australia as an “ Australian Terrorist “ , yeah he’s an Australian National , but it’s a long bow to draw to throw the Terrorist side of things back across the ditch . He left here in 2012 , he was obviously radicalised on her dirt and then her authorities didn’t manage to intercept his plot before it was executed. Now she’s running around telling the whole county to submit to Islamic headwear to show their compassion .

She is not being held one bit responsible, whereas here the government would be answering the tough questions .  The whole world is just acting like this fuckwit jumped on a plane from Coolangatta and whizzed over and shot up a mosque .
