Best VPNs ?

I know zero about VPNs or how to run one on my TVs , we have a couple of smart TVs ,   A non smart TV and a projector in the theatre room running of a internet enabled receiver . In some rooms we are running Fetch boxes and in other rooms we have Kodi boxes which we haven’t used in about 12+ months as streaming became a pain in the arse due to links becoming almost unusable .

I’m thinking the Kodi boxes with the NETFLIX apps installed would be the way to go ?

Happy to pay a premium for a hassle free and consistent VPN .

                    • CF is the anti-vaxxer Wiz. That's why he only uses "live" VPNs, "live" Internet, and doesn't eat anything "dead".

                    • Of course my kids are vaxinated .  I thought the part where I mentioned that if Super is an anti vaxer he’s endangering us all , may have tipped you off .

But just so you can take it in , yes ... Poppa ... my ... children ... are ... vaxinated .

Considering my views on most things are based on factual information and not lovey dovey feelings politics , I’m bemused you even had to ask me .

Btw , can you explain to me how you run your VPN through your KODI box ?

          • Woah , thanks CF .

  • Ipvanish is another to check out.  It is generally rock solid and is supported on most Operating systems.

  • If you're wanting to do what I suspect you want to do, most casting or streaming devices don't support Smart DNS proxies which software VPNs like Nord VPN use.

You will need to configure the VPN built into your router but that does not easily let you flick between countries like a software VPN will.

    • Thank Bourbs, exactly the information I was needing to know .  Not sure what illegal and horrible criminal streaming you’d think I’d be wanting to do but mate ?   Surely nobody would rip off such decent humans as Hollywood movie stars by streaming illegal stuff ?

Not me anyway .... I just want to ensure the security of our network when I’m paying top dollar to stream movies and shows  that were released in the states 12 months ago because we’re expected to pay the same fees as the US subscribers for half of our content region blocked .  .

Funny how some people can click onto exactly what I’m asking , yet some old fossils ( no names mentioned POPPA ! ) wouldn’t have the foggiest .  How about I be Frank (waits for someone to say Hi Frank .... ) , can anyone recommend a VPN that a certain steaming service hasn’t blocked yet , nor will be able to block , that I can run through my router ? Happy to pay for a decent one . Or is there a router that has the capability’s to change locations at the push of a button ?

With all the alter egos on these pages I thought we’d have a few people that wrote their own VPN programmes .

      • I hear you Wiz! I think geoblocking is a complete joke! You pay for a service, you should get it without silly restrictions!

I have the same problem. Because my better half is American, we'd love to have Hulu so she can watch certain American shows that we can't get here.

I can use a software based VPN to watch it on a device such as my phone or tablet, but it won't work with Chromecast (at least without jail breaking it and I don't know how to do that).

I can program my router with its built in VPN but then, my entire network is 'in the USA' which upsets my Foxtel IQ box.

With some routers you can create different configuration profiles but it's a manual process to change between profiles and requires a router reboot if you want to watch American Netflix and then watch something on Foxtel, Kayo, ABC iView SBS On Demand, Stan etc.

I think these rules are silly. If you're paying for your content, you are not in breach of copyright laws and so this overlay of regulations are designed to allow publishers and content providers to maximise their profit margins at the expense of their customers.

I suspect these regulations will eventually be rolled back because the market will dictate it.

        • Hmm , I’m wondering if I can run a relay and have two routers .  And yeah , geo blocking is fucked . If these companies think their consumers don’t tuck these type of rip offs in their little memory bank for later then they can think again .  Look at the strife Foxtel are in at the moment with their consumers dropping off like flys . They’ve been taking the piss for decades exploiting their Monopoly on premium content here in Aus . NETFLIX and Co and their little scam will also come back to bite them in the arse soon and then they too will be sooking like the Taxi industry.  I’ve noticed NETFLIX have been dropping a lot of the mainstream stuff in favour of their own homebrand type shows of late .

  • Wiz, what a coincidence you put this up just when I have begun looking into this too.

I too have Netflix and my parents want to access it as well but they want access to the US content for Mexican and Spanish tv shows.

From my recent study, Express VPN and NORD are the best. They even offer their own Routers so that you don’t have to configure your own.  I think I will be going with either one above. I bought an ASUS AC88U router a while back and these allow you to configure the region whenever you want/need (obviously only after downloading a VPN).

Looks straight forward to setup in my opinion so I’ll be diving in very soon. Let you know how it goes.
