Your questions to the Eels bosses

Next week is our last Supporters Group Alliance meeting for the year, so if you have questions for the likes of Jim and Mark, get them in.

As a reminder, the SGA is focused on the club's interaction with community, members and supporters on match days, online, and on topics like membership and apparel.

The SGA has now been around for just over 12 months. Our initial focus and priority was on the club reconnecting with fans through the 2024/25 pre-season. Our feedback and advice was used to help structure the fan days held across western Sydney. The Eels have continued with these fan days as a priority with the first one of this off-season already being held.

We've also got clarity on how membership packs are put together and provided robust feedback on what members want moving forward. I will be asking for an update on where things are at with looking into a new supplier for 2027 memberships.

We have been updated at our meetings on the club's approach to junior retention and pathways. While we don't provide direct feedback on footballing operations, we do ask questions around salary cap, contracting and squad composition.

I imagine Zac Lomax will be a topic for discussion next week alongside recruitment plans. We don't usually get in-depth info here for obvious reasons, but Mark has, in the past, answered questions regarding our salary cap expenditure and recruitment in broad terms.

Post your questions below if you have anything for the club leadership.

              • I suspect that is an urban myth! but an example just the same of what can be done!

          • A soft cap would help level the playing field, and help us on the 'big name" recruitment side, even if it's impossible to ever have a truly level playing field and players look for many things besides money.

But I don't think the powerbrokers at the Roosters, Broncos, Dogs, Souths, Cows, Titans, etc would go for it, as it takes away some of their edge in the "hard cap" with their Benefactors. And the NRL would be worried about inflation, clubs going broke, and essentially bust the bubble on the illusion of an equal playing field. The RLPA might go for it, though, as it helps raise guaranteed contracts.

We already tried dodgy TPA's to buy big names to win at all costs, and notwithstanding Benefactors who pour millions into players outside the cap like some clubs do, we've got to do it the hard way. Like the Panthers have. Systems, culture, environment, recruit for fit and value, and improve pathways.

        • Yes, there is no doubt that is what happens and elsewhere LB.

We have benefactors out there, or we should have that could be approached to do similar things.

We have talked about coterie's before, but I am wondering about their legality. i.e. sponsoring an individual theoretically means they (the individual) could change clubs and the TPA goes with them. My guess is that we need a middle man type person that is "rusted on" to be the organiser of this process....getting our board to aknowledge such an existence is the problem. Notwithstanding Politis's linkage to his club, he controls the board as well. The Dogs man (CEO) would have a very strong relationship with Launday and who knows how the Bronco's work?

Just read Cappy's description underneath and he highlights the technical details more fully.

  • What's happened to ALL THE CASH??

    • Well considering we have Lomax's money.

  • What are their opinions on a supporter coterie

When are they bringing back the cheerleaders

Any thoughts on removing the chairs behind the posts and making it standing only

Any thoughts on big foam fingers or a special type supporter hat like they do in the NFL

When are the cheerleaders coming back

    • Ya know where you can stick those big foam fingers

    • There was an attempt at organising a coterie on here years ago (like 10 years ago) and it never got off the ground. Good idea though.

I like your idea of removing those sections of seating, not sure how that would go from a safety perspective, nevertheless I like the idea.

      • It more than got off the ground. We had multiple coterie meetings and endorsement from the club. We had a draft constitution. Then the morons running the club got caught taking notes of a criminal fucking conspiracy and the coterie had to be shelved as it was never running with an administrator.

    • You prefer standing behind the posts? Interesting, Wests Tigers do that for their Commbank games. Could be a nice experience for games.
