I don't know much about how the finals system works so can someone explain who parra will play in the first week of the finals based on where they may finish on the table and who they will play if they win or lose their first semi ?

If we finish 5th we'll play 8th. (Sharks or Raiders)
If we finish 6th we'll play Newcastle (7th)
If we finish 4th we play the Minor Premiers
We should ask the NRL to take 10 points off us so we we come 8th and get to play the Roosters who looks likely to end up 5th. ;)
I think we will beat whoever finishes 7th or 8th. I don't think fnishing 5 or 6 will bother us.
There's still many variables and could finish 4th 5th or 6th. 4th is a double chance
5th is the most likely and will play either Canberra or Sharks. sudden death
6th Newcastle sudden death
If we win that we'll play the loser from the top 4 teams.
Then a win would put us in the gf qualifier

Cant see the Eels finishing 4th. Manly have an easier last round than Eels.
I actually would not be surprised if BA is more content finishing bottom half of the 8, avoid Melbourne til the 3rd week or GF if they can. 7th or 8th we should beat either of them so it should not matter, we do lose then expect a storm to appear again in the media.
This year, given there is no home ground advantage, places in the 8 are less relevant.
I'm not normally like this but I see absolutely no advantage in finishing in the Top 4 for us. Sure we could jag a win and get a week off which would be great. But the more likely scenario is we'd play Storm or Panthers in an absolutely brutal game, close loss and be busted going into week 2.
I'd rather play against 7 or 8th in week 1, then take on a busted Souths or Manly in week 2.
I agree completely Mutt.
I also think we should be pretty much writing off the Penrith game (unless they rest ALOT) of players). I reckon we should rest as many players as we can and the bench should consist solely of players that normally start. Blokes like Hipgrave, Carty, Will and all other members of the support cast should be playing.
We don't need confidence, we have that now, and we don't need to risk losing confidence by going all in against Penrith. Just take the loss and concentrate on week 1 semis - and sell that narative to the players, media, fans and anyone else who's listening.
We're a confidence/momentum side - put the side away until week one semis then roll on! The Storm win makes us a genuine GF qualifier contender and I reckon we have a better chance of getting there via 5th/6th with a first up win. Of course, if we do get that far, we can then reassess our goals :))
Completely agree. The Panthers game is meaningless, I'm sure if there was an option to forfeit BA would take it. It's all about Finals Week 1 now. We want to be healthy, rested and ready to go for finals.
I know the commentators are saying the minor premiership is up for grabs but based on for and against I can't see the Storm losing it and who cares anyway. I can see Penrith resting most of their squad too. It could be a bit of a farce game now I think about it. "Here you have the ball". "No no please you have the ball". "No I insist it's yours". " No I couldn't possibly have the ball, please take it".
lol, yeah it should be pretty funny to watch. Maybe Ivan and BA will be having a bit of a chat during the week..
