The good, the bad and ugly

I'm really impressed with how we are travelling the postive news is there is room for improvement. The kicking game especially from Reed was pinpoint the little fella is adding more strings to his bow - Turbo was labouring have to retrieve the ball from his corner and the pressure was relentless. The team looked in control and for long periods repelling Manly on a few occasions our line looked intact. The second half was a let down but credit to Manly for not giving up they tested us till the very end. Fergo had mixed game and too many times didn't show trust in Waqa and was dragged in that rookie type reaction. Dylan Brown lazy pass to Sivo allowing Manly back in the game.Gutho hospital pass to Fergo and was soft footy as captain I expect better and that type brain explosion is corncern especially when come against the real heavyweights. BA is on the right track and that first is exactly  he wants the team to  operate. The second  half  some bad habit crept and I'm sure BA will address.

  • Well said, Mick. Some very pertinent points.

Overall, we are a very talented team.

I think we still need to go up a few notches to be near the top-heavyweight contenders such as the Roosters or even Raiders, though (and won't write of the Storm, yet).

    • Agree HOE, Manly are a quality outfit so we proved we can get the job done. The test will be in a few weeks verse the roosters and without Teddy the juggernaut naut still rolls on. The brain fades will cost us if they not fixed but time is on our side.

  • I looked at that last play again and Lane just gave up on the play instead of at least trying to get back there.
Lane CAN play but he's a bit of a flat track bully IMO. Manly always bash him and then he's very quiet.
Notwithstanding the Kafusi and Walkers tries which I personally thought were both incorrectly judged, Manly are a bloody good side. They are so physical and we need to get that hard get in the mud mongeral in us if we are going to progress to a premiership. We are getting there but we still have a fair bit to go. Ray Stone would have been great out there tonight.

    • Good pick up FH, I didn't see the play you pointed out re lane

    • Never post, only read, but I got to pull you up on this, Lane, Dylan, Jennings, it looked half arsed because the whistle had been blown, they played to the whistle, all this hand wringing over Manly getting robbed is BS, no call and there would have been a lot more urgency and pretty sure Garrick would not have scored.

    • Nathan Brown would've been handy too.

    • Lane and Jennings gave up cause the whistle blew.

  • I tbink the problem is Brad doesn't come down heavily for their lack of attitude. We have a team we can win a premiership. But we have bad habits. These habits are are our Achilles hill. Brad doesn't do anything either. He doesn't want to rock the boat. He is not Bellamy who would have spitting dummy. We were so undisciplined and that is also against a team like Manly? Unless and until we become disciplined its going to be hard to win premiership...

    • Desieels, I think we are disciplined team in terms of penalties but I feel some compliancy set in, attention to detail and a  lack of concentration hurt us in the second half. The heavyweights like Raiders and especially the roosters have a ruthless attitude

  • I completely agree with your summation.
Bad habits resurfaced tonight when we were under fatigue. I'm sure BA will be all over this issue.
if we play the final 20 minutes with no nonsense, percentage based footy we win this game easily. Mid field bombs, chip kicks, lazy passes etc let Manly back in the game.
I thought our defence and line speed was excellent. Tommy Turbo was kept very quiet

"Agreed. We had to completely change our game plan because of the weather. Still a few stupid errors, but we held strong to get the W. The intent was there, which is good to see. Some dry weather and we should play more to our potential as the finals…"
