Set Restarts + Are Ruining the Game

I'm sure not everyone will agree but in my personal opinion Set Restarts in particular are destroying the game and allowing the referee to basically control the outcome of games. Combine the Set Restarts with diabolical refereeing and bunker calls then the whole fairness of Rugby League has long gone. Seriously today's game was disgraceful refereeing ( yes the Eels made some poor mistakes and the younger players are still learning) but a 10-1 penalty count and not 1 repeat set 🤣. This seems to be a continual report on 85% of refereeing of the Eels games. In my opinion the Eels hierarchy need to speak up about the appalling referee and bunker calls. It's not only the Eels coping it but it seems the lower placed teams get the raw end of the stick. Ricky Stuart isn't afraid of speaking up when things go against his team with refs. About time the Eels did the same or they'll continue to be the NRL doormat team

                • Seraph,  don't stress , after 2 losses Ploppa was out for Ryles blood earlier in the season. He dedicated a whole blog to it. Then we came out and won the St George game  ( the Lomax feild goal ) and he pulled his head in..

                  • Thanks Wiz.

At this point its clear Plops opinion is the only one that is allowed on here

                    • If that was the case we wouldn't be having this discussion.

                    • No, you just try and shut down any discourse you dislike.

Don't you have another pious essay you should be working on?

              • What a Headline: Insider Spills Beans on How a CEO and Club in 'Shambles' even Advertise for Athletic and Development Performance Coaches on LinkedIn

There's just one thing. All CEOs and NRL clubs (even Storm, Penrith, Roosters) advertise on public job sites like Seek, Sportspeople, LinkedIn or even Jora still posting jobs since 2009.

Check the current NRL Sportspeople listings (not an extensive list for all clubs) to keep up to date with the latest on there.

                • Sorry HOE, as far as 'white-anting' goes, the people I know are only sharing things with me because they know Im a supporter. It is more like 'how is work going?' Not a 'have I got a scoop for you' situation. They arent going out engaging in corporate espionage and leaking secrets like Plops is trying to insinuate.

Aside from that lets all keep the rose-coloured glasses on.

Im sure those in charge believe they are doing the right thing, whether they are actually correct in their decisions is another thing. But sure lets just focus on throwing out terms like white-ant and parasite.

Also, im sure once JRs time is up we'll strike it lucky and find the next super coach through Seek or LinkedIn. Why go looking for the best when you can cast a wide net and have any and everyone apply

                  • Seraph,

Stating facts that all NRL clubs and CEOs advertise on public jobs sites like Seek, Sportspeople, Link, LinkedIn or Jora is about as "rose-colored" as thinking you live on a Musk Mars Colony.

                    • HOE, allow me to clarify.

My comment about Rose-coloured glasses was more for Pops' refusal to admit that there was anything wrong with the front office. His perspective is that the leadership are beyond reproach and questions cannot be asked. Because I mention things I hear from people Im deemed hater or have an agenda to take down the club which is pure stupidity but hey, its only stupid when it doesn't come from him.

Also, all NRL advertise or have advertised CEO roles? ok.

                    • That's a spicy one, Seraph.

Distinguishing between 'hate', 'criticism' and 'analysis' is a bit like separating spaghetti mid boil. Theoretically possible. Emotionally scarring.

Mild to hyper-aggressive criticism is the most commonplace in cyber space. More than farts and bad breath.

Studies suggest negativity, digital flame throwing and aggressive cyber behaviour is far more common than positive, respectful commentary.

The media sure as hell know that and rely on it for click-bait. Positive storylines don't sell well to the masses.

As much as I love this site and many on it, we would have to be one of the leading critics of our club. More a Gordon Ramsay reality-sheet-show than cuddly bears. That's probably one reason we attract around three times the audience of TCT despite their club access. And why many have been driven off our site and most prefer to stay outside zoo hoping no-one sees them peering into the Safari from the bushes. At least we're ludicrous and witty at times, even if we make a now-calmed-down James Hooper look like a Parra-lover drinking unicorn goo-goo juice.

Our club knows all that but they also accept the reality of how people are and don't really get too hung up on it — wise. Hopefully, players, people in the game and their families ignore much of social media.

Could we define 'hate' as intense feelings of dislike, disgust or disdain, keyboard warrior rage? Maybe there's hate in the criticism, maybe there isn't. That's for concerned lab coats and brain scans to figure out.

Analysis and objective SWOT-like reasoning doesn't really get the clicks either. It's is a yawn-fest of sorts for many.

All that isn't a shot at you personally or anyone else in particular. Human nature is fascinating.

PS: All NRL clubs advertise different roles on different sites as mentioned. Not sure if they adverstise CEO roles regularly. Could do. Clubs such as ours and the Broncos are using more specialized external recruiters.

                    • HOE, I know you say this isnt aimed at me, but it reads like it is. You make it sound like I only post hyper-critical commentary or am being hyper aggressive. May I ask what I said that was so egregious?

All I said was a) i hoped that the new performance coach fixed the lapses if the players were gassing out b) that I saw the position posted on a job site and c) i used the word shambles which in and of itself is used to describe disorder. All because I have spoken to friends within the org, and some of what they have told me has mirrored what others have said on this site, and yet Im somehow attemping a coup of the club and white-anting.

Somehow, one person has conflated this into im trying to take the club down. The aggressive behaviour was all one way, read through the chat, CE disagreed and yet it remained civil. Ive never gone after anyone on this site, resorted to name calling, made attacks on someones character or brought their family into a discussion all while they virtue signal their righteousness.

Also, if you're implying that Im 'clickbaiting' for likes, that is disappointing. Clickbaiting works if there is something to be gained, usually financially from site traffic. I dont see how I would stand to gain anything by doing so

Finally, Im well aware clubs use job posting sites. Your original message implied that roles up to CEO level were posted. If I have misunderstood, apologies.
I just found that Mills' role being quite specialised that there wouldnt be a huge pool when compared to say a marketing role. A type of role where someone that may be scouted or poached.
