I'm sure not everyone will agree but in my personal opinion Set Restarts in particular are destroying the game and allowing the referee to basically control the outcome of games. Combine the Set Restarts with diabolical refereeing and bunker calls then the whole fairness of Rugby League has long gone. Seriously today's game was disgraceful refereeing ( yes the Eels made some poor mistakes and the younger players are still learning) but a 10-1 penalty count and not 1 repeat set 🤣. This seems to be a continual report on 85% of refereeing of the Eels games. In my opinion the Eels hierarchy need to speak up about the appalling referee and bunker calls. It's not only the Eels coping it but it seems the lower placed teams get the raw end of the stick. Ricky Stuart isn't afraid of speaking up when things go against his team with refs. About time the Eels did the same or they'll continue to be the NRL doormat team

Another new word eh Plop? That calendar is paying dividends.
There it is again your famous 'you just dont understand' argument, albeit a derivative of it. Good to see you fall back to a famous classic.
your motives are pretty clear actually. To be seen as an intellectual who's responsible for education those deemed less than only by yourself.
Here's a thought, if you dont like something don't engage
Coryn did say he had info too Poppa and he is respected by you and a few others here. Not throwing him under the bus or taking his side just saying he claimed the inside scoop first.
Stop talking facts LB lol
facts dont matter when it comes to spinning a yarn to attack an individual
I only commented about the performance coach because I saw the position advertised on LinkedIn and shared. Call me crazy, that type of position is one that you would think would be scouted for, not open for public submissions, but what do I know?
Not even a close to a scoop, just something in the public space. And for an organisation that is renowned for keeping people well past their use-by date, for a new hire to be 'let go' as claimed by Pops being a good move because he isnt performing, seems
a) counter intuitive to what we know of the club, and
b) by his same metric JR should be let go for the same 'underperformance' because we're at the bottom of the table.
Thanks LB
People who work for organizations, companies etc are made up of all types of personalities. It's a known fact that just like the Pommy the Aussie likes a good old fashioned 'whinge' and they're not always stating actual facts in their 'whinging' but most times distorted views or misinformation . I wouldn't read too much into it.
I completely agree Cumberland. Companies have all types and you are right in most cases it is just venting of frustrations. As much as a certain person may think Im too naive to notice or understand this, im well aware of the personal bias that influences information.
For me, when I hear the same thing from multiple facets within an organisation, then Im more inclined that it may hold weight to what is being said. I chose to share, its up to the individual whether there is validity to it or how much they want to read into it.
I appreciate the civility in our discussion
Maybe he's more used to Rugby Union more than League. There could be many reasons he's leaving if he actually is..I'm sure Ryles will have someone better lined up
Well now his role I am not familiar with and how much they do with players. Though I am curious to know if he mishandled Moses in pre-season this year? Moses' foot was a reaggrevation of his broken toe from the screw due to heavy load.
Now I am happy to say I could be way off as that role is out of my field of knowledge to be fair.
X a million billion
this
eels need to get vocal and ask for meetings with referee bosses showing our concerns around decisions
Thats more than likely a queue for that meeting with the other 7 teams that lost this round Carlo.
I think the rules themselves need to be looked at and that will help take away the subjectiveness of the opinions that refs give.
There is no doubt that different referees have different intepretations over the same rules and I have no doubt that the side they give momentum to ultimately wins the game. Big name players also have an influence, Cam Smith being the obvious standout but I think the refs get a bit starstruck as well. I'll maintain that this comes back to incompetence and performance anxiety rather than corruption, the way Austrac monitors the gaming side of things, you can guarantee anyone related to big wins would be investigated and the corporate and state betting fraternities are paranoid about it.
One final offer I would make is that we need someone to take an overview of refereeing outside of another ref. Someone influential to talk about the rules, intepretation and the role of things like the six again. i.e six again was brought in to keep the game flowing and stoppages for penalties. I think it would be fair to say if six again's were stopped the game would slow but there needs to be a balance in the process.
Referees by nature are junior policeman and seem to lack the necessary ability to "play on" and make judgements about different indescretions. The knock on rules, high catches, play the balls and forward passes having tweaks could eliminate the pedantic needs to keep giving 6 agains. It is always a matter of commonsense and commonsense needs to be added to the rule book.
It's just a way for the nrl to control who they want to give an upper hand to. All very vague calls with no explanation. Roll ball is the same.
