  • Turn it on for starters - press record - start playing and singing.

Don't forget to plug your acoustic guitar into a seperate power source that does not electrically interfere with your USB.

    • How do I turn it on?

  • Record the guitar part first then put that on a separate track to the vocals so you can mix them separately because you'll maybe want to use different filters for the guitar than you use for vocals. Then record vocals while listening to your guitar track with headphones on. Look into Zoom digital recorders, the cheap one is only $90 they are a great device you can take and record studio quality anywhere.

    • Do you use a USB mic or a Condensor mic?

      • Zoom recorders  have 2 condenser mics facing opposite ways so you can point it so one faces up to mouth and other down to guitar if you want to record both at once. They store all recording on the device then you upload onto computer to store or mix.It has mp3 or wav switch depends on what quality you want.Usb mic goes straight into computer which is good also,I think you can get sub condenser.

  • What sort of DAW are you using ?

    • I have Audacity and Garageband but I was under the impression if I use a USB mic instead of a condensor mic then I can get away without using a DAW. There are still lots Im trying to figure out. It gets harder as you get older. I just want to record some vocals with the use of an Acoustic Guitar. Any advice and suggestions would be great.

      • I’m doing a Diploma Music Production. Highly recommend for exactly what you’re trying to do.

Use GarageBand for now. Super user friendly, plenty of YouTube resources and your USB mic will be automatically detected so you can press record and start strumming.

You’re going to want to record 2 tracks/takes of guitar and 2 tracks/takes of vocal (ie 2 takes of each part of your song) and you can start ‘mixing’.

The automatic FX are sorted by category (vocal effects, acoustic guitar effects) so you can just apply them and hear the difference it makes to your tracks. No real mixing needed. You can adjust volume and left and right pan without too much fuss as well (for the ‘dynamics’).

Also, I can record you for $50/hr with some real gear (preamps, mics, compressor, DAW, etc) that I’ll bring to you.

        Rock and roll.

        • You sound like you know what your talking about. Im really wanting to start doing something at home more than in a studio. If I have decent USB mic such a Audio Technica or Samson GTrack Pro do you think I will still need to use Garageband or Audacity?. Do you recommend using a pop filter?

          • The pop filter will change the sound so you can trial. Generally used for reducing sibilance in vocals. I Wouldn’t recommend using it with guitar. Just point the mic at the 12th fret and adjust the distance as you need.

Usb mics are perfect for what you’re doing. Audio tech are a decent brand and will do the job mate!
