I think the storm were happy to accommodate paps with his release as they had a younger player ready to take over.
The problem with taking such a strong stance is other players would look at the club in bad light and see the eels as an unfavourable destination.
You can guarantee the players as a whole will support the return of lomax and paps.
He'll come back too parra, why would they put the clause in. The put it in incase he wants to comeback hence why we haven't bought fuck all outside backs and haven't made a signings. He will be in eels gear in feb.

Why they put the clause in was so he didn't leave for a year then want back in with say the Roosters or someone like that. In this case he sees out his deal and can't play elsewhere unless we say so. If he does come back for 2026 it's either here or elsewhere and we can dictate that.

The problem with taking a weak stance is respect is lost which is far more important (and harder to regain) than being appealing which is transient. It's a bit like finding out your missus fucked your best mate but you want to carry on the relationship as if nothing happened just to keep the circle of friends together. It's not too long before word gets around and your friends perceptions of you have forever changed.
I commented in a blog some time ago that we don't have to try and be appealing to everyone, only those who want to be part of our organisation. Part of that is accepting that the majority aren't with us (Zac Lomax being one) and we need to seperate ourselves from those people.
