Nelson Asofa-Solomona has turned his back on up to seven NRL clubs interested in his service, quitting the NRL to take up a full-time deal in boxing.

News.com.au can exclusively reveal the NRL’s biggest man has quit rugby league indefinitely to pursue his dream of becoming a heavyweight boxing champion.

The 115kg enforcer has also become the first off-contract player to shun the mega bucks of R360 and also the riches on offer in the English Super League.

The former Melbourne Storm forward has signed a full-time boxing deal and could earn up to $1m a year in his new sport.

Plans are already underway for a rugby league super fight with another high profile NRL behemoth.

          • Haha, Randy. I'm on board with that analogy. Other people are not in the controllable basket. If she wants "to walk", you open the door & tie a red ribbon around her. Ours has a long string though lol.

          • Yeah good point, if Lomax wanted to stay we keep him. But also i have heard Ryles was not too fussed, feeling the price for a Winger was too high.

    • Exactly.

Zero targets hit besides stopovers and retirees

    • Melbourne and Cronulla have bought no one. There are a number of other clubs like Parramatta who have only signed one or two players.

Fact is, there has been very little movement so far for next year across the whole league compared to previous seasons. No doubt, due in no small part, two new teams coming in the next 3 years and a whole new TV rights deal to be worked out. Clearly player managers are holding out to see how that all pans out before committing their players to make wholesale changes to their existing deals.

      • With a new team coming into the market, teams are prioritising keeping what they have and those who are on the market are using Perth as bait for higher wages.

It is the same as the market has been bare for a few years due to the cap going up year after year meaning teams can pay their players more each negotiation periods.

If more players are re-siging, less of a market of course. There is an addage in NFL and is the same here. When a player is a free agent there is always a reason why they are a free agent. The best players rarely ever come available as their teams do whatever it takes to keep them.

    • Parrafan101, are you a pessimist? With all due respect but everything is the worst thing in the world. We are not going to sign massive big names, well more than 1 as there is nothing on the roster. Has been that case for years. We are not an attractive club due to recent form.

Who that has been available for 2026 have we not signed that have gone elsewhere that you would say "He would have been great" Don't say Averillo.

I would love signings too, i always love signings but you don't sign for the sake of it. Yes the Pezet deal is how you going but low risk.

  • Not that I'm upset we didn't sign Nelson but since November 1 we have signed absolutely nobody. And everyone reporting we have so much money

    • Not even someone a big fish, why aren't we after good role players for our backline like Averillo or someone. We have no replacement wingers in our system and no replacement centres that have first grade experience. Richard hasn't even made his debut yet

      • Something is up, its pissing me off. Why get rid of Lomax and sign nobody. And then we welcome Tago back in the 'top 30. I try to be positive but what the fuck is Ryles doing. Like honestly as a fan this is worrying it's going to be another dry wasted season. Pezet for one year was a sign that they have no clue what they are doing at this time.

        • Tago is not top 30.

"I have now seen one outlet reporting the case. Unless his deal, which was a two year deal, was 2026 development and 2027 top 30 which is common."
