Murdoch turns on Trump

The Post says: Give it up, Mr. President — for your sake and the nation’s

Mr. President, it’s time to end this dark charade.

We’re one week away from an enormously important moment for the next four years of our country.

On Jan. 5, two runoff races in Georgia will determine which party will control the Senate — whether Joe Biden will have a rubber stamp or a much-needed check on his agenda.

Unfortunately, you’re obsessed with the next day, Jan. 6, when Congress will, in a pro forma action, certify the Electoral College vote. You have tweeted that, as long as Republicans have “courage,” they can overturn the results and give you four more years in office.

In other words, you’re cheering for an undemocratic coup.

You had every right to investigate the election. But let’s be clear: Those efforts have found nothing. To take just two examples: Your campaign paid $3 million for a recount in two Wisconsin counties, and you lost by 87 more votes. Georgia did two recounts of the state, each time affirming Biden’s win. These ballots were counted by hand, which alone debunks the claims of a Venezuelan vote-manipulating Kraken conspiracy.

Sidney Powell is a crazy person. Michael Flynn suggesting martial law is tantamount to treason. It is shameful.

We understand, Mr. President, that you’re angry that you lost. But to continue down this road is ruinous. We offer this as a newspaper that endorsed you, that supported you: If you want to cement your influence, even set the stage for a future return, you must channel your fury into something more productive.

Stop thinking about Jan. 6. Start thinking about Jan. 5.

If Republicans David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler win, they will prevent Biden from rolling back what you have accomplished. A Republican Senate can pressure Biden against returning to the old, failed Iran deal, can stop him from throwing open our southern border, will prevent him from packing the Supreme Court.

Now imagine a government controlled by your nemeses — Nancy Pelosi in the House, Chuck Schumer in the Senate, Biden in the White House. How high will taxes go? How many of your initiatives will be strangled? And, on a personal note, do you think they won’t spend the next four years torturing you with baseless hearings and investigations?

Consider this. You came out of nowhere to win the presidency. Not an elected official, not a lawyer, not beholden to any particular faction of the swamp. You took on the elites and the media who had long lost touch with average working people. You changed politics, which is something few in American history can say.

If Georgia falls, all that is threatened. You will leave your party out of power, less likely to listen to what you have to say or to capitalize on your successes, such as expanding the Hispanic voting bloc for the GOP.

Democrats will try to write you off as a one-term aberration and, frankly, you’re helping them do it. The King Lear of Mar-a-Lago, ranting about the corruption of the world.

Securing the Senate means securing your legacy. You should use your considerable charm and influence to support the Georgia candidates, mobilizing your voters for them. Focus on their success, not your own grievances, as we head into the final week.

If you insist on spending your final days in office threatening to burn it all down, that will be how you are remembered. Not as a revolutionary, but as the anarchist holding the match.

        • Oh, that's just utterly incorrect!

For 4 years, we had to cop the likes of Snake, Wiz, Fong et al utterly giving it to anyone that dared to question Lord Trump - and now that he's been shown to be a snake oil salesman (that we knew he always was), those blokes are being a bit quiet. A bit chastened. A bit humbled, if you will.

In the meantime, most of us want to talk footy, or the functions of paint drying, or soup recipes, or gorgeous US fighter jets (Kram, the F-16 is akin to the Jaguar E-type when it comes to sumptious beauty), but, then along comes Mr 'Johnny Cum Lately' Bob Smith, who wants to ejaculate his demon seed into an otherwise polite conversation, and then you insist we either shut up or take his demon seed square up the arse!

Nope! I won't take Bob Smith's demon seed up the arse! No thank you Sir!

If you don't like the tone of this conversation, tell the likes of Bob Smith to go and get fucked - because that's what I think he ought to do! Maybe then he won't be such an uptight cunt!

          • You have never held back on personal criticism on this site bourbs or on putting your point of view across so why should Bob be treated any different than you?,

My reason for calling for this discussion to be closed is because I can only see it heading in a distasteful direction from here, no good is going to come from it.

            • No I haven't. And I want to be heard on this point! Similarly, Bob should get the right of reply.

If Super closes this thread after I get in 'the last nasty' then Bob may be rightfully aggrieved. I say, let the thread die a natural death. Irrespective of what Slugg and co want (i.e. to talk about soup recipes), there's room on this forum for all types of discussion.

I'm not a fan of calling for the closure of a lively debate HKF..

          • Awe, bourbon baby is having another hissy fit. He doesn't like views that rock the boat. Here, have a rattle.

            • Bob you have been encouraged for the right to reply in a serious attempt to look at historical events. The world is in  amess and these type of discussions are worthwhile. You can do better than that

              • See my reply to daz. I will and have discussed issues with him but not with bourbon baby.

                • You are such a hopeless little coward! You don't have the courage to stand up for what you allegedly believe and have been absolutely shown up by Daz. You cannot begin to argue with him so are now 'playing pretend' that this was your 'masterplan' all along! To wind up "progressives"!

Pathetic, impotent little man that you are!

        • HFK, you elide an important distinction, between blogs being shut down because they support right wing views, and blogs supportive of right wing views being shut down because they explicitly broke a site term of use.

          Specifically: don't post ...

          • in a manner that is hateful or discriminatory based on race, color, sex, religion, nationality, ethnic or national origin, marital status, disability, sexual orientation or age or is otherwise objectionable;

Part of what Trump inspired was a validation of political speech that was hateful and discriminatory. As BM points out, some of the biggest adherents of hateful posts have went quiet of late, while Trump's unceremonious exit took the self-congratulatory wind out of some other's sails. How quickly some seem to forget how hateful some of the blogs became?

Note that while I am dissenting from some of your claims, I'm also just addressing them head on, not flaming you for being an enemy of the people and/or sub-human and/or shit-posting you with deliberately offensive memes (which I claim are just neutral images) etc etc. Again, how quickly it is forgotten how the Trump-era validated some total shit speech!

As for where you sit politically, I don't know, you would need to say more. But I know one thing for sure. You're not my enemy just because we may not see everything perfectly the same. Maybe cut us wacko lefties a little slack. We just spent 4 yrs with our right wing cousins mimicking Trump's collapsing of the adversary/enemy distinction, with its subsequent escalation of all difference into some kind of violence

          • I can see this blog heading that way that's why I called for it to be closed.  This site has been hijacked by political views for too long, I'm finding it harder and harder to keep returning and even harder to add any input. Maybe this site has run its course for me and I should just accept that and move on.

        • P.S. where you sit is as a moderate. You are inherently conservative, most likely fiscal, possibly social too. Understandable you dislike PC horseshit - most reasonable people do!

You dislike Trump but only think he was doing a good job as President because you don't consume enough American political material to know any better - which, by the way, you shouldn't! You live in Australia and don't really need to care too much about American domestic affairs unless it interests you.

Communism is an ideal that has never borne fruit - quite simply because it relies on humans to disregard their own self-interest, which our species simply isn't programmed to do. However, the Dems are NOT Communists, nor are they Socialists. They are pretty much as bad as the Republicans insofar as they help make rich people richer, but do so without as much of the bullshit rhetoric and causation of international turmoil as the Republicans have in recent years.

Socialism isn't a bad thing. It is a safety net. What it essentially means is that the government uses tax revenue to instigate social programmes to ensure that no-one falls through the cracks. Like NewStart, AusStudy, farm subsidies, Medicare, toll rebates, the minimum tax threshold - you know - shit you also get to enjoy.

Communism is different. That is a poltical system that relies on all resources (resources being mineral, capital and human) being pooled and controlled entirely by a central government - then distributed (ideally evenly) to the citizenry. It has never worked. Read Thomas Moore's 'Utopia', Aldous Huxley's 'Brave New World' or George Orwell's 'Animal Farm' to understand why.

The problem is the likes of Bob Smith! Despite professing to teach at a teriary level, doesn't have the mental capacity to solve the most rudimentary problems the likes that are posed on Romper Room. Like many of his ilk, he listened to Trump and "understood ever word he said". Then deified him as some sort of political messiah - despite the fact that Trump is mentally retarded.

When it became obvious that Trump was not the messiah but 'just a naughty boy', Bob Smith and his brethren had two choices:

          1. Admit they were fooled and taken advantage of by a master manipulator and snake oil salesman; or
          2. Insist that he was right all along and everyone else is a victim of 'fake news'.

Now, on it's face, this seems a dichotomy that has an obvious hero and villian, but, for whatever reason (maybe cognitive dissonance), the Bob Smith's of the world - as embarassed as they are that they were taken advantage of and their gullibility exposed, insisted that they were right all along, that there was some sort of conspiracy afoot, and anyone that disagreed was an exponent of 'fake news'.

Of course, none of this passes even the most rudimentary 'smell test', but, here we are. Having to deal with the tedium of people like Bob Smith. Having to bother responding to his garbage. Feeling the need to right the ledger!

Hopefully, he and his ilk will go the way of the dodo and we can go back to talking footy!
