The inexperience of our young side is obvious, but the boys are having a crack and there's plenty of effort being shown. Yes, we are making stupid mistakes and losing games. Overall though, I reckon we're looking more promising than we have in a long time. Our attack is fast and moves opposition sides around the park when it clicks. Our effort is also through the roof compared to recent years. I really like where Ryles is taking this team. Next year is shaping up well. A few good off season recruits and a strong pre-season...go Parra!!!

It's the "Die After Fifty" (DaF) thing again Or, Eels DaF themselves
Pity games go longer than 50 mins
For most of our team, staying competetive for that first 50min means running at redline. Short bursts of redline gets shit done, but staying there wrecks your motor and evaporates clear thought. They have to do it. They are Corollas, but they need to sit at 180kph for 80 min to have a chance, so something blows after 50. it's us..We blow...after 50
DaF is also Dumb as Fuck....Eels Dumb as Fuck themselves
Hoping the new head of athletic performance theyre hunting for will address these issues
Sustained cardio comes from experience and age as much as training. It's learning to play smart instead of playing hard. Our team is plenty fit enough, we're just not smart enough yet and tire ourselves out through mistakes.
There are some decent signs. The challenge is all the other teams aren't going to stand around and wait for us to catch up, we need to do everything right (training, coaching, recruitment) if we want to be able to ride our way up the ladder.
Yeah Cap, I should have made clearer that most of the redlining occurs between their ears. Mental drives and permits the physical. It's absolutely learning to play smart. You have to be boxing clever when you try to step up a level
The last paragraph is what I've been echoing for awhile. It's not onething its everything. The decent signs are there but the consistency just isn't.I think we need to get more settled selection wise, get some luck around injuries stop worrying what we look like and win some game's ugly.
Teams like Canberra especially worry me I think they'll be our Achilles heal because athletically we just can't go with them. When they hold the ball and start going set for set we just get mowed down that's basically what happend and then we did the inevitable and then they just ran all over us and we had nothing else for them.I see about 5-6 teams in this comp that if we don't add more urgent athleticism we'll fear much the same.
I reckon that comes with experience, learning to pace yourself and last the whole 80 minutes.
How many coaches and yet, the switch off and the ill discipline just doesn't change?
It wasn't a switch off, it was getting gassed out due to the defensive workload. That second half was relentless and then Sticky put all his huge forwards back on at the end of the game and it worked like a charm to split us open.
We did well to hang in for 60, but you get the feeling this was always the Raiders plan. To get in the arm wrestle, then bring out the big guns and blow us off the park.
It worked.
TDS is a bench player right now he isn't physical enough in the middle to start a game.
Dont worry lads Melbourne next week what's looking ugly now could be rinse wash repeat next week.
