How do you feel about M Moses?

I know Moses cops it after a loss, all halbacks do.

However,  I get the impression most on this site quite like him as a player and want to re-sign him. That makes me think maybe I judge him too harshly.

However, to be honest, I find him confronting. He is the only Eels player (in a key position) that I have ever disliked. I know he is heaps better than some of the bog players we have had over years; Keating, Roberts and Maguire to name a few. But I never really begrudged those guys because they were not as naturally gifted and didn't act like the team ought to revolve around them.

Moses, in my opinion, is the worst signing under BA. He is not a halfback. If Dylan Brown comes out of injury and continues on the same trajectory of his first 3 NRL games, then I'd be happy to sign Moses as a running 5/8, but only on the condition that he weens off the control over time and hands the keys to Brown.

Moses is not too dissimilar to Sandow. Both are freak talents. When the team is going well, their instinctive attacking play is brilliant. However,  neither manage a game well, particularly when it is on the line or the forwards are getting beaten.

The thing that irritates me most (and I have said it heaps on this site) is Moses lack of poise. He doesn't play with time. He often plays like there is only 30 seconds left on the clock and the team is down by 4. His passes are rushed and panicky, as is his kicking, and he doesn't seem to take the right option and/or really weigh up what the team needs of him.

I can't see Parra ever winning a premiership whilst ever he is the dominant half.

I know he always tries hard and that is admirable. However,  I think this quality is off-set by his want to be in control and dominate the game when,  clearly (imo), he doesn't have the mind/ true confidence for it.

How do you feel?

  • Moses and Sandow are two peas in a pod.

Talented, but shut down when the chips are down. Call it immaturity and impatience.

Mid field bombs with no chasers has to go PDQ.

The last month hasn't helped with the majority of the team playing shite.

  • Moses is ok.  The reason why he looks average is he is playing behind a set of forwards that don't have the intimidation factor.  The forwards are hardworking and somewhat skillful but other teams don't fear playing them so they can spread their defence.

  • Moses tries his heart out most weeks and has had plenty of time to take the reigns and make the right choices especially in attacking  situations but it just isnt happening.

By now he should be placing his kicks better, especially in relation to maintaining  pressure and retaining possession with double sets.To me he seems to gets easily flustered and loses control of the situation and the whole team seems to be affected by it.The fans pick up on it, as shown here by the forum,so why isnt the coaching staff doing something about it.

Yes he plays 1 good game every 5/6 weeks but thats not good enough if you want to keep up with the 4 top sides.

I know the whole team seems to be playing badly and we shouldnt only be blaming Mitchel but we will never win a G F with  him controling the team,in my humble opinion!

I think B A  has given him enough time and has perservered with him for too long.Maybe Brad doesnt have any other option

due to internal politics and salary constraints, who knows!

    • True.

Apparently we tabled an offer to him very early in season but since his manager has had other things on his plate currently (well that’s what the article stated)

Considering we were looking to move him on if off season and early in season  have chosen to stick, the least we can do is get a halves mentor to improve our halves’ game coz it was obvious from last year spoon  that it isn’t where it should be. In short HELP!

kinda feel a bit sorry for him coz ‘the effort is there’ :/

    • My point exactly!

  • Moses has/ has great potential. He's the best running half of the comp but the problem is that BA is no the coach that can take him to the next level. He can neither assemble a decent pack nor teach him new stuff. I'm sure he's be an origin player if he played for the top teams.

    • X10000

      brad doesn’t improve anyone

he can’t even change his own game plan according to conditions how the hell therefore can Mitch , without strong mentoring and lots of hands on specialist training one on one w good half back

  • The way i see it is we have two choices, due to the lack of quality half backs on the market we either sign Moses for another 2 years (he will probably want 3) and bide our time until Dylan Brown can take over as the dominant half or we sign Chad Townsend for 2 years and then look for someone to partner Dylan Brown who will be the dominant half at the end of the two years.

    • I agree, while i'm not convinced he is our long term answer it is hard to get a good gage on a halfback when the forwards are not dominating, we need to get better front rowers first and that HAS to happen this off season.

    • Slugg, I agree but go a step further and say if the whole team did their jobs better, the whole team will do better, and then the best will be certain to come.
