  • Can't complain about the new rules.A fast ,hard game, and we hammered the Broncos again.I am thrilled, but let's wait to see how they perform against the Storm.

  • One game and you've gone off. We'll see what happens when there's an arm wrestle or you have teams like Melbourne and Cronulla who are good at slowing the ruck and jumping the 10.

    • Well isn't that the point of the rules, to stop the slowing down of the ruck and speed up the game. It will be interesting to see how a professional team like the Storm, whose method of success has been a detriment to the game, respond to this, If the Storm start their wrestling rubbish, hopefully the ref just blows 6 again and we don't have to watch Cameron Smith have a disection of the penalty with the ref.

    • Your missing the point... Did you like anything that you saw tonight? Less dead time, more fatigue and less wrestle. Tonight was a huge step forward for game and the rules changes suit our team. So you'd rather 2 refs, more stoppages and a slow messy ruck?

      • I can't remember how many times I was pissed off seeing teams deliberately give away a penalty near their line to reset the defensive line last year. It's now gone if the ref does his job, 6 more, play on quick. It's a brilliant rule, brings in speed, fatigue, less stoppages, the game tonight had an 80s feel to it at times, when footy was footy. I loved it

        • Agree Brissyeel, the changes are a masterstroke. The refs took centre stage under the 2 ref system now the ref takes a back seat with less involvement and that's the way it should be. The game last night took me as well, teams playing with more freedom with the ball. The arm wrestle is back and how good is it watching a player like Jr Paulo punch out long minutes. The skillful players having more time and space and not getting smashed by refresh forwards. The game yesterday night is exactly the way it should be played, teams that are fit and skillful should be rewarded.

          • That's it exactly. When the Broncos started to get fatigued it snowballed for them, they dropped balls, got sloppy in defence, gave up more offloads, which in turn fatigued them more, and I actually think the Broncos were pretty good last night for most of the game.

The new rules will definitely separate the men from the boys now.

        • Yeah absolutely. There is a massive difference between defending 5 sets of 6 in a row with breathers in between to having to defend 30 tackles end on end without a breather.

Let's see the Roosters defend their line as well now ???

    • I don't know if you were watching the game last night Sooper, but the 10m was pretty skinny for most of the game, but it didn't matter, fatigue was the overriding factor. I don't care how fit you are, no team should ever be able to win a game with just 37% of the ball.

Yes it was just one game, and yes there will still be games where teams like the Storm control the ruck so well, but the key thing with the 6 again rule is that teams like the Roosters & Storm won't be able to give away penalties as a stalling tactic anymore. Cam Smith won't be able to chat to the refs incessantly to give his players breathing room anymore. Giving away penalties intentionally should never be a viable defensive tactic, the 6 again rule will allow refs to punish teams that do jump the gun without robbing the attacking team their attacking momentum.

That's what you can't see past your PVL hate.

      • I liked the footy that I was watching but it was slightly confusing having penalties issued on the fly (6 again) with no explanation. There needs to be some sort of communication to the viewing public (via the touchy, or on the screen) as to what the 6-again was for. How do we critique a decision if we have no idea what it was for? And how will the players adjust their behavior if they are in the same boat...??? I think the football was great but there are still some transparency issues.
