Game day blog - Bring on BankWest!

So, the day has arrived. Our beloved eels christen their new home ground.

I am hoping that this game sees the eels come out victorious and show the Tigers whose turf this really is.

Who will be first to score a try at the new stadium?

Who will win and by what margin?

Man of the match?

Bring on 4pm!

  • I’ll say MJ for first try scorer.

    Eels by 6.

    MOM Moses.

I really hope that Farah has a shite game.

    • Pretty close with your predictions Grunta

      • Apart from the scoreline. But that was much better than an Eels by 6 score. We've been the whipping boys of the comp in the past and there's nothing like doing it to another team.

  • The dogs game are always must win games for me , but with stadium opening , we really really need to win this one , the refs better be good to us today .

    parra by 6

taka to score opening try (he is a plodder but seems to pull a try out of nothing every so often)

MOM Moses or Gutherson .. will be Moses he will be pumped against the tigpies

  • Moses will have his work cut as the only kicker/playmaker.

    We need an alternative

    • I notice Salmon practicing his kicking in a few of the training pics.

I hope that he can put a few decent kicks in to at least give us a half arsed alternative to Moses.

Gutho may have to step up in the kicking department too.

      • Wonder if Mahoney can kick?

        • I'm sure I've seen him kick at some stage and surely he can. Last season I think it was because I remember thinking that it's been a while since we've had a hooker who can kick.

Who knows? Salmon may surprise us all this afternoon.

          • He's kicked a few times this season, and kicked well! I clearly remember one, when we were in front but tiring, that found the sideline just in from the corner post.

  • Our marker defence has been poor and it’s clear opposition teams are targeting behind the play the ball to roll through their sets. Farah will exploit this unless the coaching staff have addressed this issue.

Ersan Masters offloads will need to be contained and Luke Brooks always outplays his former roommate in Moses.

So where does this leave us. Negate these strengths by working hard at marker and using our line speed in defence to cut Masters and Brooks time with the ball and you nullify their attack. The only other thing of concern then becomes the short kick in behind the line.

If we expect to be in the finals the Tigers shouldn’t have the arsenal to score enough points but we have a tendency to be dragged into a game the opposition want us to play . I’m hoping Mahoney displays some kicks early to take the pressure of Moses . if it comes down to field goal I don’t like our chances.

Eels by 8 in the usual eventful Easter Monday game. There’s generally a refereeing howler , hopefully it goes our way with Mahoney expressing his desire to get out of dummy half early in the game I like his chances of stealing a meat pie off the back of a fast play the ball. MOM Michael Jennings with a double.

"Sanders defence in the halves is actually better than Hands. NSW Cup stats would back this statement up as well. Hands is actually a poor defender in the halves. He is barely cup quality in cup. Hands is an out and out hooker in my opnion."
