V'Landys wants the two losers of the two preliminary finals to play off for what is effectively third place, before the grand final (say, Thurs or Fri night). Apparently the players union is opposed, citing a concern about player workload from an extra game.
The players union concern (oh no one more game!) seems arbitrary: the two losers of the preliminary finals were each busting a gut to play another game. But maybe as some players have said (quoted in media) the let down from losing the preliminary could produce an injury risk in a dead rubber game?
What do you think? Would you be keen on a 3rd vs 4th game? Would it matter more or less if it was the Eels competing for (consolation) third place?

This has always ben a non event. I think they used to do it in harold mathews. No one watches it.

No it achieves nothing, just another money grab by the NRL. The only 1 importent is the winner, if you come 2nd or 2nd last your still a loser and it only is worst if you get the spoon.

Thanks, I hate it. I watched the 3rd place play off in the world cup and it basically had the feeling of a friendly. Neither side really cared about the result.
I can't imagine the RLPA signing off on this, playing for nothing. They are trying to limit the amount of games they play.
Also, some will watch, but when playing for no points, most fans won't watch.
V'Landys is full of ideas and most are bad but at least he is trying something different. Kick-off will be next to go through and hopefully is rejected.

That is the most ridiculous thing I have heard from Vlandys, and there have been many ridiculous things uttered by him. You play a nothing game, win and still have nothing to show for it. Teams will field their Flegg squads.
