Eels make play for Storm centre

Parramatta is attempting to prise Jack Howarth out of Melbourne, just months after the Storm refused to release him as part of a proposed swap for Zac Lomax.

Howarth is contracted to Melbourne until the end of next year, but the club has permitted him to explore his options for 2027. His availability has piqued the interest of incoming franchises Perth and PNG, although the Eels appear to be his most likely destination.

            • Yea. Telling you as well. The only good outside backs coming through that I am confident could play FG are 18 in Sorovi and Bloomfield and 16 year old Seuseu. Rokusuka is 19 and has a chance with his athletic traits but given our development history I am not confident

              • What if Bamblett fills out, could be a good winger? Or this new signing Antonio Okusitino

  • Done deal

  • This deal could've been done earlier in the year during the Lomax saga - what changed?

    • Melbourne don't want Howarth anymore. Yeah they could have had Lomax right now.

      • They can have Lomax only if it's swap and the club agrees to it. There's no mention of Lomax here as part of this deal.

    • Storm got Xerri to take Howarth spot. In summary Storm shot themselves in the foot and could have a had Lomax. Trying to be smart

      • Agree, they could have had Lomax and Xerri next year. I'd argue that Xerri is an upgrade on Howarth as a pure centre in the modern game, he's faster and has a higher ceiling.

The irony is that Howarth is still a massive upgrade for us. But I'd rather have a Fox - Xerri combo.

Howarth will hopefully end up playing 2nd row for us if we get him.

    • Jesus, if Ryles roles that team out, I think we've lost him.

"Thanks, I hate it. I watched the 3rd place play off in the world cup and it basically had the feeling of a friendly. Neither side really cared about the result."
