NSW Origin forward Junior Paulo is set to agree to a new deal to remain at the Parramatta Eels, 7NEWS understands.
The 28-year-old prop, who had one year remaining on his existing contract, was chased hard by up to four NRL clubs including the newly formed Dolphins for season 2023.
However it is understood the Eels won the recruitment battle and will announce their retention of the 177-game NRL star, likely on a three-year deal, in coming days.
It spells much-needed good news for Parramatta fans, who’ve seen a handful of stars sign with other clubs in recent weeks, including hookers Reed Mahoney (Bulldogs) and Ray Stone (Dolphins) along with powerful backrowers Marata Niukore (Warriors) and Isaiah Papali’I (Wests Tigers).
The Eels also recently locked in two signings from the Canberra Raiders, with star hooker Josh Hodgson set to join the club in 2023.
They also locked in winger Bailey Simonsson immediately on a three-year contract – paving the way for the Raiders to sign Nick Cotric on a deal running from 2022 until the end of the 2024 season.
Cotric signed a rich three-year deal with the Bulldogs in 2020 but his spell with the club lasted just 14 games.
Injuries prevented the 23-year-old from matching the form that resulted in him playing for Australia and NSW while with the Raiders in 2019.
With Canterbury struggling for space in their salary cap, Cotric was classed as dispensable.

JA to the rescue 😳
I doubted Paulo was going to leave Parra. He actually loves the club and is a western Sydney kid.
I expected him to leave. Good money is hard to pass, especially if you grow up without much of it and want to change the cycle.
Really glad to be wrong.
So I'm rebuilding my life now
Again
Good to hear junior could be staying. Always liked the footy bevan french played hope he comes back.
LOLLLL the people cheering Juniors re-signing were the same knobs bagging him out just days ago and throwing insults at him. Hypocrites much?
Gee did you really have to write this twice on two different blogs? I guess when nobody comments it usually means your talking shit. Just giving you some feedback ExSideKick.
