Born in Liverpool on the 3rd of April 1988, Tautai played for the Edensor Park CVD Cobras in the Parramatta District during his junior years. He progressed through the ranks and made his NRL debut for Parramatta in a memorable win against the Bulldogs in Round 1 of the 2008 season. After a breakout rookie season in which he claimed the Eels' Rookie of the Year Award he continued his form into the 2009 Season. However, after his first 3 games he experienced a loss of form as well as a number of injuries. He had been struck with the dreaded "Second Year Syndrome".

After a disappointing 2009 Season he was released by Parramatta and joined the Cronulla Sharks where he rejoined the NRL and played 20 games for the club in 2010. Late in the season he was moved to the unfamiliar position of Second-Row. He continued with Cronulla through the 2011 season where he played the entire season in the forwards.

In late 2011 it was announced the Tautai would re-join Parramatta in the 2012 season. He played 9 games for the club in 2012, coming off the bench in every match and scoring a try in Parramatta's loss to the Tigers.
