Aaron Woods could be running out for the Sharks this Saturday night, according to veteran rugby league journalist and Cronulla supporter Phil Rothfield.
Speaking on Controversy Corner, Buzz told Graeme Hughes he had mail Shane Flanagan wanted him in the Shire as soon as possible.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if he played his last game for Canterbury today,” Rothfield said.
“We’re getting closer to June 30 and Cronulla need middle forwards, and yeah I wouldn’t be surprised if he went this week.
He said it’s a smart buy for the Sharks, who are currently in a scrap to stay in the top eight.
“Aaron Woods hasn’t played that badly, and Cronulla have picked him up, he’ll be a bargain for the Sharks,” he continued.
“That’s why it’s a good signing, because Canterbury are going to have to contribute for three years.”
Former Kangaroos prop Steve Roach said it was a great move looking beyond 2018.
“I think it’s a great purchase,” he said.
“They have to do something when they lose Gallen. And I think Luke Lewis is in the same category at the moment just about to retire... They have to replace those guys with a first-class player and Aaron Woods would be a good fit.”
It would be a huge blow to the Bulldogs, who are not only in contention for the wooden spoon, but could still lose Moses Mbye mid-season to the Tigers because of their salary cap mess.
“Well the old Canterbury management, what they did when they were in trouble with their members last year, they thought, ‘Geez we better sign Kieran Foran quick, we better sign Aaron Woods quick’, and ignored the salary cap pressure they were under,” Rothfield explained.
“So they’re now in a position where poor Mbye who’s probably been their best back this year has been offloaded.”
And the club in the NRL most in need of Props lets another Big body move on without trying to sign.
I don't care what you think of Woods, but he's a rep quality front rower and his wage will be subsidised for the next 3 years by the Dogs.
What the hell is going on with our recruitment?
BA, Sharp and Gurr? WTF??????

Just because his salary would be subsidized, does mean he would be cheap. His current pay packet is a $million or thereabouts if I remember correctly.
I was thinking the same thing today watching Paul Vaughan run around Muttman.
I'm sick of hearing "there is no one on the market".... there has been plenty of good ones in the last few years, and we came up with Kane Evans.
I agree WTF?
Kane Evans is on less than half what the top middle forwards are earning. He is in a completely different price bracket. After upgrading Brown for next year we had enough cap space for one big money forward and that's Paulo. What else we have left in the cap we need to sign ten players, including filling a couple of top 17 spots.
Of the team that beat the Cowboys, these blokes are all uncontracted for next year, meaning they need to be re-signed or replaced:
Hayne
Gennings
King
Terepo
Gower
Niukore
Vave
Poupou out of those parramatta players who you name i would only resign niukore rest are to old or no good
Yes, and he's less than half as good.
