Why we havent won a premiership since 1986

I hate to yarn before a game but i heard a 12 year old quote from someone about another club 12 years ago who were in a similar position to us this year. Some of these old players have "a hold over the hearts and minds of south sydney fans, we are talking about the guys from 1971 and they are still dominating the way the club thinks and thats not necessairly healthy. Im happy those players had there glory days and they should be respected and admired but they shouldnt prevent other players from having glory days and thats exactly the situation we are in" - Russell Crowe prior to privatising south sydneyThis quote caught my eye last night after watching the south side story documentary and to me speaks volumes about parramatta. We are stuck in a mentality that 1986 can never be replicted becuase our team from the 80s was just that good. We still hold value to whatever players like peter sterling say over anything else. When a young player comes through he is instantly the next eric grothe sr, jarryd hayne or peter sterling rather than being just a good young players. its not a healthy state we are in, it never has and never will but this mentality is entrenched in our though process as a club and has been since 1986Its a mentality before anything else we need to move away from if we want to see another premiership come to parramatta. We need to break away from our history and we need to start making new memories as a club

  • The good news is that we have until 2029 to try and beat that drought set by Souths. From memory they didn’t even contest a GF before they won their next one in 2014. At least we have been in 2 since 1986.

  • Trying to achieve that 2029 benchmark is neither impressive nor honorbale. Another ten years will break the members hearts. I personally will not renew membership until we rejoin the finals. The fact that we have continued to break membership numbers every year speaks of the loyalty of our fans
    • Or it shows how gullible and stupid Eel fans can be.
    • I was joking. It’s isnt good news, it’s a disgrace.
    • Joe I understand how you're feeling and it hurts like hell.

The problem with our club is that they risking losing fans - not the rusted on like us but the future fans, the next generation. Not good.

  • We were suppose to have 2 by 2019.
