Since there are posting of NFL on this site, I wanted to share a little about college football.  I live in Springfield/Eugene area in the state of Oregon, the home of the Oregon Ducks University.  This has being a great year with the ducks making the play offs.  The Oregon Ducks will play against last years college champions Florida State University in one play-off and  power houses Alabama will play Ohio State in the other play-off.  The Duck colours are green and yellow, similar to the Australian colours.  This is also the college that Phil Knight (Nike Sports Company) went to school and continues to pour $$$$ into this school

This is a big game for the ducks as they have never won a college championship.  The ducks have a Hawaiian quarterback that just recently won the college best player of the year award, the Heisman Trophy.  Marcus Mariota is a very humble guy, one that a parent would be proud off to call their son and a guy you hope your daughter would marry.  Marcus has given other Polynesian kids hope to fulfill their dreams by working hard and striving for excellent.

Both game is played on new years day with the final being played on January 12th.

If you guys have time, check out Marcus highlights and his Heisman award presentation and speech,  Pretty awesome!  Enjoy.

  • Springfield's a nice area to live. Didn't spend much time there but now and then we used to take a drive just for the hell of it out of NYC for a few days and check out the small American Norman Rockwell-type of towns. Springfield was one of them

  • Hi Snapper,

there are lots of little towns/cities that are called Springfield in the United States.  This particular Springfield is on the West coast in the State of Oregon.  It is also a beautiful place with great Salmon and trout fishing and huge number of deer and Elk to hunt.  Springfield is situated on the I-5 corridor that you can take if you wanted to drive to Canada in the north or California and Mexico to the south.

I am going with the Ducks to beat FSU and Alabama to beat Ohio State.  Ducks and Alabama for the BCS championship.  As they say here, Gooooooo Ducks!

  • Yeah, used to do that quite a lot, Mack. Another thing we used to for kicks was look for haunted roads or abandoned houses that had bad reps as being haunted. Don't forget that the States is a large country. We used to drive from NYC to Seattle just to watch some band we heard of then drive back to NYC. I've hitched from Detroit to Tampa...never again...

  • Hay Snapper,

did you go to the "Grateful Dead" concert while you visited Seattle?  I missed it.  Happy New Year mate

  • Oregon Ducks just beat Florida State University (FSU).  It was a great first half with the Ducks leading 18-13.  Second half (3rd and 4th quarter's)  the Oregon defense step-up and pressured the FSU offensive to make a lot of mistakes.. Oregon capitalized on those mistakes to score 6 unanswered touch downs.  Final score 59-20.  Great game for the Ducks.  They will meet either Alabama or Ohio State on January 12th for the grand final of the BCS College Championship.

Goooo Ducks.  I will post a highlight of the game as it comes out.  Oh yeah,  just roast a Australian Leg of lamb for our new year dinner.  A great way to enjoy a great game and a good meal.  Cheers mates

  • Wow, Ohio State beat power house Alabama 42-35.  Alabama lead 21-20 at half time.  This is a great win for the number 4 team Ohio beating the number one team Alabama.  Ohio was playing with their number 3 quarterback who did really well.  What does this mean to the Oregon Ducks?  The Ducks don't have a big offensive and defensive team like Ohio have.  Ohio have tall solid built like a S-brick-house offensive and defensive team that runs hard and hit hard too.

What the Ducks have is a,

    1. fast offensive team (no huddle) that will wear-out the defensive team
    2. the best quarter back in the nation that reads the game well, throws and runs with the ball well
    3. a defensive team that can put pressure on the opposition quarter-back and the receivers
    4. a team that wants to win

The BCS championship game is on January 12th and it should be a great one.  Here are the highlights of both the Oregon Ducks and the Ohio play-off games.

  • Bummer, just watch the college finals with Ohio State beat out the Oregon Ducks 42-20.  Great game from the Buckeyes with their quarter back in his only third start and being a third string back-up quarterback.

The Ducks did a lot of mistakes and gave away too many penalties.  I will post the highlights tomorrow.

    Cheers

  • Below is a link to the highlights of College Football Championship.  The Oregon Ducks got beat good by a very strong Ohio State Buckeyes team.  Ohio is a regular power house team when it comes to championship.  This team is coached by an experience Urban Myer who now has won 3 championship.  Their quarter-back is the number 3 back-up and his only 3rd start.  He is built like a shit-brick-house with a great arm.  The quarter-back go-to-guy Ezekiel Elliot is as stout as you can get, a Marshaw Lynch of college football.  The buck-eyes were very aggressive on defense and critical on offense.  They were the better team on the field and deserved to win.

The Ducks couldn't finish off their offensive plays with crucial drop balls and endless penalties for false starts and holding onto players.  Defensively they were out played, had to stay out for longer periods and tackling bigger solid guys is a lot of work.  It's a bummer they couldn't finish it off, they just didn't get it right on the biggest stage of their college careers.

Anyway, enjoy the highlights and come on Nines!!!!
