truth about refs

It story with breakdown of each ref performance for penalties blown, home team vs away team etc..it to long to post here and bit to in depth but some might appreciate it.www.theroar.com.au/2017/08/03/refs-fault-right-actual-facts/amp/">https://www.google.com.au/amp/www.theroar.com.au/2017/08/03/refs-fault-right-actual-facts/amp/Interesting to see some refs are home team heros as many suspected by awarding more penalties for the home team..Also winning penalty count doesn't help win game but with top teams giving away penalties this statistic is useless. Interesting to see some refs seem get lot more golden point games then others. Is that because they ref close games or like to give even up penalties to keep game close.Be interesting see what others get out of this.

  • The truth about the refs is there corrupt full stop. They blow a penalty when momentum is with the eels. That strifles our attack which looks like our attack is crap at times. When ppl on this site was saying we were crap this year it was only cause we would be against the grain we would have no ball and no momentum. We still won though which shows how gritty we are. They say most top teams get less penalties but look at when storm and roosters conceded penalties. It when the other team is about to score a try. They get there line set and Go again it's bull sh@t
    • Ye agreed numbers only tell part of the story. Refs can control the numbers of penalties awarded and square up penalties are so obvious its almost embarrassing to watch at times..

  • I cant subscribe to the game and refs are rigged or corrupt and further I'm going to go out on a limb here and will most likely get shouted down but here goes:-

We are in this situation because too many refs for too long have been "interpreting" the laws of the game. They are there to police the laws of the game as they are currently instituted. Its up the Games governing body to interpret laws and change them as required and issues around high tackles and concussion are a case in point. What I interpret is different to what you interpret and thus we get mixed decisions.

It is human nature that players and coaches will stretch the laws of the games as far as possible in order to win because all professional sport is about your win/lose column and they have the most to lose, i.e their jobs if that lose column grows. So by stretching the laws you get examples that we see in the modern game of wrestling in the tackle, players not playing the ball correctly, the joke that is scrums, off side etc etc.

Take the play the ball. The law still states that a player must "heel" the ball backwards. My question then is why are refs interpreting that "almost: heeling the ball is acceptable? Again, what I interpret as "almost" someone else wont interpret as almost.

If refs police the laws more penalties will be given and then the fans and press will hammer the refs that "he blew to many penalties and killed the match". But is this correct if all he was doing was policing the laws of the game? Can you not then argue that the players and coaches killed the match by trying to get an unfair advantage?

As i stated, players and coaches are governed by there win/lose column and if they are losing games because of penalties then they will adjust their behavior and tactics. Perhaps (and yes maybe I'm being overly ambitious) that if refs stop interpreting and start policing some of the grey areas of adjudication might just be taken away.

    • It's the way the rules of the game are written. You can't just write down that something must be done in a certain way without getting into further detail, ie what are the acceptable limits, or what is unacceptable? I think there is too much emphasis placed on the referees to interpret the rules, because the governing body is too lazy to write explicit rules. In most other sports the rules are mostly black and white, with perhaps the decision resting on whether or not a certain event actually took place, or would have likely taken place (ie cricket in LBW decisions).

  • ONE REF'S ENOUGH WITH THE BUNKER  ,AND THERE SHOULD BE STANDARD RULES FOR ALL REFS CALLS.

LIKE THE PLAY THE BALLS , MOST TEAMS PLAY THE BALL FAST ,AND ROLL THE BALL BETWEEN THERE LEGS

OR PLAY THE BALL SIDE WAYS,THE TEAMS THE REF WANTS TO WIN GETS NO PENALTIES.

OTHER TEAMS  GET PINNED FOR  IT.

ALL THE ABOVE SHOULD BE A STANDARD RULE FOR PENALTIES.

WORSE  IS FORWARD PASSES TO SOME TEAMS AND NOT OTHERS, THE BANKER SHOULD ACT ON FORWARD PASSES DRAWING A LINE ACROSS REPLAYS AFTER A FORWARD PASS TRY..

MANLY AND PENRITH GET AWAY WITH PLAY THE BALLS AND SHORT FORWARD PASSES VERY GAME , ITS A BLOODY JOKE,,,YEA  REFS DO REF ONE TEAM IN GAMES NO DOUBT,  THANKS LETS HOPE PARRA GETS AT LEAST A 50/50  CALLS. GO PARRA , WE ARE HEADING FOR THE GAME LIVE..ITS TIME PARRA RELEASED TODAY WIN WE ARE IN THE TOP4,,,RUN HARD, PLAY FAST AND KICK TO THE EDGES, AND TACKLE HARD BOYS GOOD LUCK. FROM ROBBIE.
