I saw both games yesterday and boy what a difference. Admittedly I only saw the second half of the Storm-Dogs games but how boring was it? If both teams play this way all year I don't hold out much hope for their top 8 chances.
Now the second game, what a breath of fresh air. Souths were dominant for about 10 minutes until Tigers asserted their authority. They stiffened up their defence and produced an attractive expansionist game that blew Souths off the park. Tedesco showed why he is one of the top fullbacks in the game with his speed and stepping and Moses (and to a lesser extent Brooks) produced superb touches of the ball and a good kicking game. An excellent all round team effort by the Tigers.
With our new forwards, who all have a good offloading skills, I hope we produce a similar style of game to Tigers. I firmly believe an attractive open game of footy is the way to go to break open stubborn defences. We'll all see come Sunday what BA has in store for us this year.

For example for the Tigers to win the comp they'd have to go on a hot streak and peak right at the end of the season. The Storm however just need to do what they do each week and they will 100% play finals footy.
The Tigs were great but watching the opening games the same feeling came back ive had the last few years, RL is losing some of its charm, the product just doesnt grab me as it used to.
Sadly the rules are set up for bland boring footy, it's all about wrestling and the ruck. I enjoyed the Tigers brand of footy but sadly it's not the style of footy that wins you comps.
Whilst the Tigers were good and whilst their attacking exploits are fun to watch, the effect on both counts was exacerbated by a Souths team with the inability to properly defend back-line shifts and wide-out plays.
The Souths team, despite what the fans or their media may try to tell you, are very, very bad defenders and the stats show that. At least half their team missed 5 tackles or more in the game across numerous positions whether it be from poor technique, poor defensive execution or from simply being too slow.
Yes, the Tigers played well but don't count the chickens before they've hatched. They'll come up against much more rigid, sturdy defensive structures whereby swift back-line shifts and crafty attacking plays will be shut down more often than not.
Will struggle to make the 8.
