The Semi Moment

There are certain moments as an Eels fan that send tingles up your spine and put a lump in the throat. The last time I had it was when Eric Grothe Jnr ( love him or hate him) snatched Jamie Sowards cut out pass in the 09 final against the Dragons and ran 95 metres to slam the ball under the posts to silence a packed Kogarah Oval. But when the big Semi- trailer beat 4 Manly defenders and then hit fifth gear last night to out pace anyone in pursuit that elusive feeling returned. I even got it again today when I watched the replay. I must admit, it gave me a semi! Bring on the Knights!

  • Phil Gould in commentary compared him to Grothe senior. "I remember when I played Parra in the 80's. I put in a kick that I thought wasn't too bad, until Eric Grothe Senior picked it up. He ran 105 metres to score under the posts."

  • I thought he had no hope of getting away after seeing him stumble but the way he regained his balance, pushed off defenders and got in the clear was a moment I won't be forgetting for a long time if ever. He has a running style where he strides out like a race horse. Fantastic watching him stride out in open space, hope I see it plenty more times this year and years to come. U good thing semi.
    • Strength, balance and a few good "Don't argues". Was never in doubt. I have seen that replay at least ten times now.

  • He definitely is cut from the guru mould. He scored some pearlers in the 80s. The one in origin in 1981 I think it was, was awesome. Ran the length down the sideline and was too good for a last ditch maroons ankle tap. Is Semi really having a chat when he runs or is it just lack of mouth control? Haha. Whatever it is it is working.
  • Awesome try. Now the leading try scorer.
  • Yeah he sort of looks like a grouper when he's flat out.

But then again he must need lots of oxygen to get those legs pumping.

    Poetry in motion.

  • Great isn't it.
    • Semi's our new cult hero. He plays like his life depended on it and he has the speed and physique to match. It's scary to think what he would do when he gets more experience. Good times ahead.

      • Agreed b&g I've also noticed that he gets really dirty on himself when he makes a mistake. That's a sign he is striving to be as good a players as he can be.
  • The moment which stood out for me was when semi leaped up to catch the ball, we haven't seen to many of our outside backs leap and contest a bomb or a kick which semi did with ease.I use to cringe every time semi catches ,runs, plants the ball down.
I did read a article from somewhere that semi was made to carry a footy in his hands 24/7,It's safe to say my cringes are slowly dissolving and I have more trust in the Mack truck. What a season he has had.

"I used to think Flanagan was the one to get parra over the line. Dragons will definitely get better if they get the players, but why would you let the best player you have walk? I'm glad he didn't come here now. "

"A heap on here said he couldn't play and were pissed off we had rumors of chasing him. I kept trying to explain he is talented as and a few years ago when he was happy he was killing it. Glad he has found that already this year. Can't wait to see…"
